The 2nd from the top right (STG) and the third (G1) are both Blue Monster's fantastic creations. IMHO the nicest wood you can get.

You know, if you adopted me, fed me mega doses of Jamaican North slope Blue and let me fondle those on occasion I'd be your Stock carving biatch.

Until then I shall just live vicariously here on the files.

Thanks for the nod bro.

Ya know, I've always wanted my own stock carving biatch! Just don't think I can afford mega doses of North Slope Blue.....

Give DunkRD a few weeks and you will see what we are doing with that type "A" stock you made me and the other type "B"!!(Hows that for a teaser?)
I was looking at the fantastic stock you have up for grabs, thinking "I need that...!" Of course, then I'd have to buy another kit to put it on. Then a receiver to build the kit...Ya already did that to me with the Type "A" stock damn it! I got three girls at home! I can't afford that kind of inspiration anymore!!

How is the "magic carving hand" healing up? Ya know, if you'd stop fondling the FAL's so much, you might heal faster:uhoh:

Bank account? What's that?

Oh yeah, birthdays and Christmas are exciting. Actually I have 2 kids, a 9 month old and a 7 year old step daughter. The reference to raising 3 girls is kind of an inside joke, referring to the fact that my wife is 14 years younger than I am. She's 30 and I'm 44.

Thanks for the compliment on the FAL collection. There are a few more builds in progress, them I'm done. I wish I had started building a lot sooner, as I would have loved to have put together an M1 clone. I was busy collecting WWII stuff during the FAL building hey days!

What you and BM do, Graduate at the top of charm school classes with the younger wifes. Told my wife I was going to trade her in when she turned 40 about 9 years ago for 2 twenty year olds, Then she reminded me how dumb they are at that age even then.

Hey guys, bear with me . Here is some additional information for those who have pm'd or emailed me concerning some of these builds...

Blue Monster turned out the fantastic wood on the STG 58 (second from the top right) and the G1 right below it. Fit and finish are superlative. I have 2 more sets of wood from him being built onto kits now, so yes, I think he turns out the nicest product you can buy.

DunkRD built the Imbel with Israeli wood right below the G1. He refinished the wood to that color. You will have to ask him as to how he did it. Might be a "trade secret"!

DunkRD built the Belgian FALO, the Stg58 (second from the top right), the G1 below it, the Imbel with Israeli wood furniture, and the Israeli light barrel on the bottom. Obviously, I am a great fan of his work, as I have 4 more being built as we speak! No, I don't know if he is "the best" FAL smith out there, but his work and attention to detail is 1st rate!

EX1 and Rooster have been the sources of the "hard to find" items.

I built the 1st STG, the parked Imbel, and the Israeli HB.

The camera used is a Nikon D40. I'm just learning to use it:biggrin:

OK, back to your regularly scheduled program!!

Hey Andy, these long slings, are they actually intended for L1A1's or for L2's?

L2s (and F1 SMG), but most people preferred them on the L1s to the shorter version. By the end of service here there was no real standards for such things. I found those mixed in with a stack of the shorter slings.

Thanks for the information. I have ordered the shorter one's so I'll have the correct sling, but I do prefer these longer ones to actually use.

If you ever run across any more Leader stocks PLEASE keep me in mind! Ya know, NO proper gun collection is complete without a Leader

Well, I won't have pictures until I get some batteries for the camera, but I have the targets in the range bag for when I do and I'll get a picture up.

What Dunk is referring to is this p.m. I sent him after my range trip with the new Belgian FALO:

Hey Roger, you have built my most accurate FAL ever!! I just took the Belgian FALO out and put i on the bench with rests. Using Lake City match I got a 5 shot group at slightly more than 1.45 inches (best group) second best was 4 shots at just a hair over 1.25 inch..then a flier (my fault) opened it up to 2.15 on the fifth shot.

What was different on this build? The new barrel probably helped, but was anything different with the build, or just luck of the draw?

I hesitate to post this on the forum, as they would probably all tell me I'm full of shit! But it sure is nice to have an accurate FAL!

Thanks!!!!!!

For the record, After adjusting the sights a bit I ran 10, 5 shot groups through two good 20 round mags. The 1.45 inch group above was the best, the rest averaged out at just under 2".

Needless to say, I am very happy with this build! I have plenty of other FAL's, all plenty accurate for battle rifles, but most are at best 3"-4"+ rifles. I don't hold out hope that I will ever have a 1 moa FAL, but a 2 moa works for me.

Considering its a heavy barrel which helps stabilize it the second the trigger is pulled, Plus the match ammo and a New barrel? and not some surplus used barrel and just maybe the SHOOTER HIMSELF? Ever wonder why the Israelis employed alot of thier Heavy barrel Fals with the air gauged barrels as snipers during the mid 1960's and into the early 1970's.
With this one it sounds like Dunk got the barrel lined up just right. Way to go guys.

January 26, 2009, 16:37
Lee,
Yes I think the brand new barrel is probably the main contributor. The 1966 Lake City match is the most accurate ammo I have. All my FAL's perform best with it. (173 grain bullets) But I'm down to under 3000 rounds of it now, so I shoot it more sparingly.
And Dunk always gets the barrels timed exactly right, or at least has on all of mine!!

Davesrb

Hey, the lower arrived today! Looks fantastic! Thanks again...

Not for Nuthin' I'd rip that Imbel off the L2 and sell it and replace it with a DSA L1A1. Figure, sell the Imbel for $400 and buy a DSA L1A1 for $650, and for $250 OOP you have it right.

I have thought about that, just haven't found a L1A1 receiver yet. Well, and I am always reluctant to tear down a nice shooting rifle:biggrin:

Yes, it is incredible how quickly the price of some of these kits has increased over the last few years! If I had started any later I wouldn't have been able to get what I have. I agree with you on the Israeli Heavies, they are still around (L/FN has one for sale now!) and somewhat affordable. Soon they will be neither!

Funny, as I think the G1 is my favorite FAL variant, but I agree with you, the FALO is probably my favorite in the collection. I absolutely love this rifle. EX1 and DunkRD really came through on this one. A truly classic design.

Now, the real question here is - does the steep drop off after the intersection represent a cause or effect:?

My guess is that depends upon who pays the bills
