View Full Version : commercial fn mauser build

December 20, 2008, 22:50
i got my christmas present early ...

a commercial made fn mauser action with a 338-06 barrel screwed to it, set in a boyds jrs stock, a burris straight 6x, in luppy rings and bases, and a timney trigger.
plus dies, some loaded ammo, and quite a bit of resized brass....
first thing i did was swap scopes to an OLD luppy 3-9 i had in the safe, making sure the bases and rings were tight. then i floated the barrel, it was bedded already so no need to mess with that.

shot it already too..

here's the left side at the range yesterday evening right before dark...

did a quick bore sight and fired one off. there were 2 fired cases aleady in the box and they looked good so i felt good they were good loads.
anyways, there was a target down range, and it didn't get a new hole in it...
so i aimed at the bank and let another go, i needed to move the poi a bit left and up...
right side....

i fired 3 more but lost them in the old holes..
i put up my own target and fired another 3 and here's what i wound up with..

a 1 inch group.

so not bad for my first firings, with someone else's reloads...

now to load up my own !

anyone have a luppy 3-9 x40 in matt finish with a heavy duplex they want to sell ??

and here's the 257 weatherby mag i got off mtang45...

i had to camo the ugly black plastic stock..
it's shootin 100 grain barnes tsx's over 3,600 fps, into this.

bottom hole was first shot out of a cold , clean bore, then 2 into the single hole....

merry christmas to you all......

but , remember jesus is the reason for the season...

Ok I have to ask, what's the rope for between the bipod legs??

December 21, 2008, 01:09
do use a bipod ?

if you pull the one leg down the rope drags the other leg with it...
so no having to touch both legs to deply them.....

quick and easy.

very nice rifle and shooting. Is that a 100 yard range?

December 23, 2008, 19:03
yeah, it's our 100 yard sight in range, off on the right over the berm, is our 700 meter range...

Sweet find....! What barrel is attached to that purty thing? How is the weight? I have a VZ24 action waiting to be reborn and was thinking about using a laminate for this build instead of a Brown Precision Kevlar stock. Just out of curiosity how much did you have to shovel out to get this one?

Now the .257 Weatherby is it a Mark V or a Vanguard? I am quite intrigued with the ballistics.

Ya....I have a Browning Abolt in 300 win mag I haven't shot yet. The bore looks great but I have already decided that if it doesn't shoot well I am going to put a new Shilen match tube on it and restock it. I can't complain the price I paid for it is worth the action....Man, when does this madness end????

December 24, 2008, 08:32
it doesn't end...
the weatherby is a vanguard, traded mtang45 for it.
i am runnin 73.5 grains of reloader 22 under a barnes 100 grain triple shock, for about 3,650 fps !

the mauser was traded for from member chip, the father of idsubgun. we "met" on another site.

it was all up n runnin, i didn't build this one. anyways, it's wearing an er shaw barrel , and from what chip told me, they built it as well, the barrel says back in 05.

i tried 56.5 grains of h4350 the other day under a 250 partition, and i got a 2" 5 shot group at 100, so today, when i go by work, i'm gonna stop at the range and try 50.0 grains of imr4064, under a 250 partition. if it still sucks, then when i go home, by the gun store, and see what they have for lighter weight boolits...

so there it goes....
i am gonna put some stuff for sale i think, i saw a cz550 full stock in 6.5x55 for sale..

have a great day...off to the store for a turkey bag, and then to the range via work...
