ok, i have a winchester 1300 12 gage, which opens up on its own after every shot and i only have to shuck a short distance, and will actually eject a shell using 3" magnums or slugs. i do not like this and would rather shuck my own, is there a modification that can stop the 1300 from self shucking? it really pops open when using an 18" barrel.

I think you're SOL (Poop Outta Luck) on that one. We had Winchester 1200s backin the late 80s when I was stationed in Italy and they did the same thing...and I didn't like it one bit either. Winchester touted it as a speed pump that would allow you to fire faster by the shotgun blowing back the bolt under recoil making it faster to use. I always had the same idea in that if I want the pump to come back, I'd pull it back myself.

I have 1200 that does this and it used to bug me to no end. After I talked to a couple of gunsmiths who convinced me there was nothing wrong with it I did get used to it.
I shoot trap and clays with it now and don't give it a second thought.

The 1300's have a recoil assisted action that is supposed to quicken the cycling. I don't think it is anything to be worried about. I have a 1300 Black Shadow and I like it very much. If you want to move on to something else, Mossbergs are great as well as the Ithaca's. Ithaca's are tending to get a bit spendy.

That's normal. In fact Winchester advertised it as a speed action. It makes it a little faster then other pump action shotguns.

X2

On the gun being designed to partially open on firing.
