This for a M1a Please teach me about barrel twist and the number of lands, what barrel is the best to shoot M80 ball and still give me the option the shoot hand loads out to 650 yards. I would like chrome line match grade heavy barrel but not bedded stock.

I ONLY shoot Milsurp 147 grain ball and I prefer the REAL GI barrels(which are chromelined=last forever) with 1-12 twist,if you are
using handloads and heavier bullets in a custom barrel 1-10 is probably
the best. I like my rifles simple--less for me to learn! Pete

LRB has Criterion (a division of Kreiger) mid weight barrels. They aren't chrome lined, but will fit your bill nicely.

Warbird has the standard contour Criterion chrome lined barrel. This is the one I would get. More accurate than a USGI.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that the M14 GI barrels have a RH four groove 1 in 10 twist rate.

And so it goes.

Criterion makes great chrome lined barrels to GI specs, I have found them to be more accurate than the original GI barrels. They come in GI or medium contours, with or without chrom. Contact member jywolf (m-14parts.com) for the best selection and price.

GI barrels are 1-12, 4-groove, RH twist. 1-10 is usually what the NM builds will be outfitted with. The faster twist rate helps to stabalize bigger bullets. The standard 1-12 seems to do fine for bulltes up to 168 grains. SAI outfits their Loaded M1As with a twist rate of 1-11. I think they use Wilson barrels, but I'm not sure.
