Bought my first 10/22 yesterday. $225, private seller wanted to move a few guns for a medical situation. It's a stainless rifle (not carbine), with the hardwood stock. On the stock Ruger mount its got a mid level Simmons 3x9x40. Came with a canvas case, 3 stock 10 round rotary mags, 3 Butler Creek "red lips" 25 rounders and 1 ram line 25 round. Quick detatchs with a leather padded sling. Also has an upgraded trigger, I'm unsure of which one.

It shoots nice. The rifle is 99%, and I gotta get it on a bench to see how it groups, but it looks like 1 inch at 50 yards will be easy. Previous owner says the CCI Stingers worked the best for him. Yet in the manual it states the "target" models may not feed stingers reliably. Anyone have an opinion on Stingers?

Sounds like you did real well.
You might want to grab a few more mags for it. While you can.
Have fun.

Yes, I think I'll spring for the steel lip Butler Creeks, and save them. And use the plastic red lips for everyday use and plinking.

On the ammo: previous owner said WWB would only jam. Hmmm, I've never had any problems with it, but I am going to try it out this weekend, if it's dry.

Six months ago I would have said to buy Tactical Innovations (http://www.tacticalinc.com/ti25-advanced-composite-steel-magazine-ruger-1022-p-532.html) magazines instead of the steel lips. Now I see the price has gone up over 28% since I got mine. If they're available they are excellent magazines, but no longer the slamdunk they were at the old ($35 or 3/$100) price.

Those look great. Its good to see a company who doesn't cut corners, even if it means a higher price. Durability is always high on my purchasing priorities. I think these are just going to go on my Christmas list!
