This is my first, I've read all the procedures and have my pins and Forester gages. Cleaned everything well.

using a .264 pin I get what feels to me like a good lock up. some pressure is required, but it snaps into battery. .262 is really loosey goosey, no pressure required. I only have every other pin.

Using the +.001 for setback and then -.002 gets me to a .263 LS. Well, my kit had a .264 in it. I figure why not so I put it in.

It won't close no on the go gage with the LS installed. I'm thinking it should, but there there's that .001 setback, will that make a difference?

Using a couple of different surplus rounds, one goes in with about the same amount of pressure as the go gage did with the .264 pin. A second round from a different maker will close but requires a bit more pressure.

So what do you think? Maybe I'm about .001 or .002 tight?

Does tight mean better accuracy, or just that it will feed unreliably?

What surplus are you using.

If it was me, I'd shoot it, but would only load 1 one at a time in the magazine for the first 10 rounds fired. Make sure the bolt closes fully on each round. After the first 10 try 2 rounds in the magazine. After 80 rounds the setback should be taken care of.

I've built a couple this tight and had no problems after getting 20-40 rounds down the barrel. It also depends on what surplus you are shooting as the headspace differs slightly on each. They've been accurate and I sure like them tight.

some of it is Venezualen 92, most of it I don't know. It's marked TZ 80 on the headstamp.

I'm thinking I may need to go down one size. But will probably try it like it is and see what happens, loading and shooting as you suggest.

Myself... I'd put a .262" in it and know it would run reliably on anything. Setback may or may not happen. The ammo you are using isn't noted for being the worlds finest.

I'm leaning that way. I think if I would have had a .263 gage pin in my assortment I would have used it. If so, that would put me .002 less than the LS I've used.

The go gage should close with the LS in place, it dosen't now.

FWIW

I use Forester gauges and set headspace with 1 thumb pressure closure on the go.

It is a bit tight, but again...who doesn't like em tight? I have never had any problems with Port, Aussie, SA, Hirt, Winchester WB, Silver Bear, Wolf, Privi or Remington UMC.

With the .264 LS, try closing the stripped bolt/carrier on the GO gauge with recoil spring pressure. If it closes, you would probably be GTG for most ammo out there. You would really only run into a problem with lesser quality overlength ammo.

Or, just pop in a .262 and let the party happen.
