My TA55A came in today, here's what it looks like on the 3rd gen mount. Not even gonna sight it in till I get the Smith mount (low and far back just for these scopes) and a throw-lever base setup. Not sure it will even fit in the safe this way ( knew I shoulda got a bigger one...) I don't trust that aluminum mount with this size scope. This is a preban NM, bedded stock. I hope to put this scope on a DPMS .308 when I move to a free state.

let me know if that shoots loose on you!!
I had the generation III mount from springfield and it would shoot loose even with locktite on it.

This 3rd gen I had machined out so the slots go all the way across- only way I could mount it so far back in this pic (did that for an oddball scope I had), but it shot loose on me.
Not gonna waste ammo sighting this in and finding out it won't hold, gotta keep saving for that Smith mount, even at $1258 shipped, it cleaned me out! Hey I can give you my paypal email in case you want to get started on Obama's "Spread the Wealth" around progaram! :p

Here's mine with a Sadlak mount, I'm old and weak so I went as light as I could ;-).

My mount came, gonna take it to a local funsmith and have it mounted tomorrow, I want to get this sighted in before the elect- I mean, A.S.A.P.! Not gonna be on the light side with a full mag, but I am 6'5" so it's a good setup for me.

How's that HK style front sight working out? I always liked the look....

The HK ring type sight works good as a CQB sight with a larger rear, not as precise for me at longer ranges but that's the TA33's job. My eyes suck for iron sights now days.

Next question, what's considered the best throw-lever mount? I don't think you can access the screws that mount the scope to the base, and I don't want to have to take the whole mount off just to get the scope off if I need to....
I'm looking at and A.R.M.S. one on eBay that is dual-lever. I think a single lever is fine for the smaller ACOGS but look at mine, its a monster!

LaRue is the best going IMO.

Damn scratches from my MINI-14 Tri Rail!!! I ordered the A.R.M.S. dual throw-lever mount, only to realize this Smith mount doesn't allow for iron sights use. Damn! Should I try to cancel the order on the throw lever mount? Naaah, better put it on my MINI-14 so I don't scratch any more guns. KNEW I shoulda sprung for the next size up safe...
I feel like I need to have this sighted in before Nov. 5th :fal:

Mack7.62, what manufacturer is that folding stock you have? It looks like just what I need on mine.
superjc, no hijack intended, I just needed to know about the stock above.

Richard,
It is a Vltor stock, they modify a GI syn stock. I like it because it is a lot lighter than a SAGE or Troy. The stock tube also is adjustable up or down 1" to help with scope usage.

NP, it's a VLTOR, I want one too, but see I'm in Kommiefornia, and that would magically transform my benign, innocent and relatively harmless sporting rifle into a dreaded and deadly "ASSAULT WEAPON".

Good looking rifle superjc. The scratch will probably steam out. Also, oil that mag! You have handling rust starting! (get rid of it before it pits!)

Yes I noticed that too.... trust me, there will be a lot of oiling and cleaning going on this weekend... after I get this baby sighted in properly. This sight picture is amazing on this scope, huge and bright! With both eyes open you see that bright orange chevron and as soon as you close the one eye, the other one focuses in on the reticle. :shades:

Well, I added a A.R.M.S. dual-lever quick release, took it to the range today. Seems like at 25 yards I couldn't get it to stay anywhere, re-tightened the nuts and set screws, took it out to 100 yards, and with 1981 headstamped SA .308, put all the rounds inside the 4 inch box, got a few outside with seated off-hand (elbows on the bench) I feel like something is missing, like the groups should be a tad tighter, but it was windy and I'm happy it's at least "minute-of-Zombie" if you know what I mean......

Man that is a big ACOG! with 5.5X should be good for all but shooting into the next zip code.
I continue to be amazed at the efforts and dollars you guys spend to scope the M1A. I like mine iron-sighted and bedded in a McMillan stock. It aint light but it hits Good and hits Hard.
Gotta love these battle rifles!

Johnny,
How much lower does that set up put the scope verses a standard smith mount and picatinny adaptor?
Can you still use iron sights with the scope in place?

How do you get a cheek weld on the stock with your Acog sitting what? 4 inches above the bore line?
