So how do you remove the BM59 gas plug?
The one I have on my Beretta Garand does not have screw slots like a standard Garand gas plug. (and yep, it's marked BM59 and I'm replacing it with a PB marked plug)

BM 59 plug should be a hex key ( allen wrench)

Thanks Rotor. Thankfully I have a set of metric hex keys.

Reese Surplus has them for $7.50. Skip the wrench they offer and just use a 6mm hex key.

Most BM-59 gas plugs are longer front to back inside the gas cylinder than standard Garand plugs. There may be BM-59's that have Garand length gas plugs but Italian military issued BM-59's have a gas plug that is longer than the Garand gas plug. If somebody is using a BM-59 gas plug in a Garand gas cylinder it may have been shortened. There were some "export" BM-59's that had gas cylinders with the gas ports in different positions but they are not the standard BM-59 design.
