My 308 bolt gun (Ruger M77 MK II) is with my gunsmith at the moment getting a new chamber, crown, and some threads on the muzzle (9/16-24 RH).

What would be the better front-end attachment of these 2 choices - muzzle brake or flash suppressor?

I personally don't give a rip about flash, but an effective muzzle brake will reduce recoil about 50%. At my age I wish I had one on every non-military rifle I own.

I've put those AK74 type knock-off brakes on M44's,and it made considerable difference.

Yes, my hunting gun; big game (or other if necessary).

Well, you won't be hunting at night, so you won't need
a flash suppressor.

I agree with Gary - I wouldn't put either on a M77 in 308.
Unless you are Really recoil sensitive - a 308 just doesn't
have that much recoil.

It be LOUD on a short barrel, but it don't kick much. And any
kind of effective brake will just make it that much LOUDER!

You should see the flash of an M44 with a 74 brake...
