RFC: Search Improvements

Some features that I would like to see added are:

1) The ability to search on ALL the forums with a given patetrn at once rather than have it limited to just one forum at a time

2) The ability to search by alphanumeric username rather than ID#

1. You used to be able to search by all forums, but to do that now WOULD kill the server. We're too big and the search core dumps.

2. Unfortunately the geniouses who designed the board software decided that searching by userid was a good thing, there's not a hell of a lot I can do about that either.

We are looking at new software, but the change over would be extensive and likely take a few weeks to implement with the existing functionality we have now. Upside is that you could search by user and the board would run faster along with not having to archive old topics every 30 days.

We could all (probably :eek: ) live with a change that took three weeks to implement IF the old board was operational :cool:

It's more or less a matter of WHEN right now, I'm already looking at the software and seeing where to tweak / modify it for our needs etc.

The only thing really holding me back is that I really wanted to tie a few things between HKWeaponSystems.com, ServiceRifles.com and FALFiles.com together, such as the Calendar so you only have to enter events ONCE for them to show up in one main calendar, that might not be possible if we move FAL Files to new software (Though in the long run, the software that I'm looking at scales much better, runs faster, and is less likely to have some of the odd problems we've had previously).
