Today I started getting really annoying pop-up ads showing up. I am on a T2 line and changed home pages, re-booted, etc. I notice it happening whenever I log into FAL Files, but I presume there is no direct correlation (at least I hope so, right?).

Any suggestions on how to program out these pop-ups would be appreciated.

Alan, not sure where they are coming from but when I used a free ISP and got tired of their pop up ads I used a firewall.
try zone alarm by zonelabs.com, easy one to use and free

If you want to learn a lot more about the web and how people are spying on you, goto www.ultimate-anonymity.com (http://www.ultimate-anonymity.com)
for $10.00 you get a year. They have a ton of software to: wipe your hardrive to DOD specs, Backorifice detector and Shield, Encarte (the same software BATF thugs and other federals use to forensically analyze your C drive) anonymous cookie (why bother with cookies when this one throws a load of junk back at them) Whois (a finger program), Newshunter (have AOL and are tired of being censored) Proxyhunter (finds you good proxies).
There are more such as browsing the web through their anonymizer and sending anonymous encrypted email. Lots of good stuff.
First thing you want to do though is goto www.lavasoft.de (http://www.lavasoft.de) and download the freeware Ad-aware and set it up and run. This will scan your computer and detect the number of scripts that are reporting your movements over the web to the companies who put them there. Then get Zone as you been advised, set it up and go. Get some proxies and use those to prevent tracking.

Alan: There are NO and I mean NO popup ads originating from this site.

My best guess would be that it's coming from another site that you perhaps visited prior to coming here (Could even be a hidden frame from another site that you can't see but that's calling up ads), or perhaps from your isp?

Have you tried typing in http://www.fnfal.com/ by hand instead of from any favorites or history link?

The only real way to stop the "pop" ups is to disable or set the java script option to promt only in your browser security preferences. I reset my IE 5.5 and Netscape 4.75 to java promt user. A bit of a pain since you have to hit OK every time you log into a webpage that contains java script. But it will keep those unwanted and annoying pop ups from taking over your computer. Many webpages use java script, disabling java completely will cause problems with a lot of newer webpages. An internet firewall like Zone Alarm works well if you are trapped in an unending window barrage. Lock the internet, close each window, unlock the internet and go to a "clean" webpage.

Thanks, I narrowed down the source, which is another popular firearms board which I visit along with this one.
Thanks for the input. Sometimes I feel like cyber-shark bait.
