FR8's I have. FR7's I've only seen one, and the old fella who owned it had a really nasty kaboom after shooting lots of subsonic loads. (Secondary Explosive Effect. This was all his doing, and has nothing to do with the safety of the action.)
The Spanish Guardia Civil 1916's are pretty sweet handling little carbines too, and I still see them occasionally.

This shipment coming in is "supposedly" the last shipment.
Dan's was the place to get one, but he's out now.
I would also check gunbroker and gunsamerica for one. You have some control over condition that way.

Does anyone know of a better, or more effective muzzle brake than IGF's for the FR8?
I'm trying to find a Tapco Cetme M/B, but since they haven't been made in years, I'm not holding my breath.

Picked up an FR-7 'bout two years ago and was told then not to shoot it. Did it anyway and it's a hoot to play with as long as SA plastic bullet ammo or NATO FMJ is handy. For $120 plus refinishing costs it's a good little carbine.
Aside from modding a M1916 carbine handguard, anybody know of another way to get one? I had to chop and mangle a '16 HG to fit but never did fill the rear sight hole (looks like a ventilated barrel shroud actually!). Has a little trouble getting the rounds up out of the mag but when it does it goes boom. Swallows a .308 FIELD gauge but doesn't seem too hurt by it. Hafta get a NATO gauge one day.
I rarely see FR-8s but I have the short rifle version of one of those (M1943).

These are fun carbines; I passed them by so many times in the past because I knew nothing about them. They were for sale cheap at Roses, when that chain sold Firearms, but I never bought one, or any of the C&Rs they used to carry. O-well, I finally got one a year or so ago. :)

I wish there was a place building these from German actions.I just don't have a lot of faith in Spanish actions.
Have an FR-7 that I grabbed up at a gun show 'bout two years back -- looks arsenal refinshed, very dark OD park, both and receiver number-match. Looks pretty much like mitchell's pic's above, except mine doesn't have the doo-dad on top of the receiver, and the receiver-end of my handguard is metal-rimmed and fits flush/tight with the receiver. Never shot it, though -- here they kick like a mule, but after the Mosin carbines and M95's, don't think it could be that much worse
If they weren't so scarce, the FR's would be the quintessential truck-gun of all time

I'd be interested in one of these, if not an enfield jungle carbine.
How much do they run and where are they sold now? It's been a long time since I seen one on sale locally.

Only place I've seen 'em lately has been in SHotgun News under Hunter's Lodge for $325. Other than that I know of no other source except gun shows and expect to get raped on those ones.
Shortly after I bought mine I took it to a show to look for parts. A complete gun with a Lyman sight was there for $350 (FR-7, now) and it looked close to what condition mine was in that I just paid $120 for. Luck of the draw I guess.
Still need to put that sling eye pin on the triple frame...

I wish I had picked one up for just that purpose when they were super cheap. From what I have seen, it is too late now.

Ssarge, Thanks, that's what I was told, but I bought it because I prefer the bent bolt handle. My Mosin's just seem harder to operate for a left handed shooter. The bore is mint, and it's a good shooting rifle with iron sites.
StoneyCreekMrMauser,
TY, Sledgehammer cleaned the exterior finish up with a fresh park job.
And corrected an ejection issue, which I think is fairly common for the FR8s.
He does excellent work. I'm looking forward to getting back two .308 Norwegian re-barrels back shortly, one a K98, the other a M48.
Cheers.

OK Ssarge, I guess I don't know very much about FR8's after all. How do you determine that the one in the picture is a "sniper" model? By the base that is on the receiver ring? Where would the rear scope ring fit? Doesn't look like that rear peep sight is removable to be able to utilize the rear base..........
Thanks.

Blaster one if these would probably help.

It maybe a bubba, or real, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to say. Yet, the work on the rear sight is very detailed.
There is a least one other rifle out there like mine, that I've seen on the web, here are those images.

Regardless, the rifle shoots excellent with the Iron sights.
Cheers.

The bent bolt and sight mounts look just like the photos I have seen of actual "sniper" FR8s.
There was one guy on gunboards that had one with the correct scope installed. Never seen one before or since.
I think mitchellh's is the fourth sniper FR8 I have even seen photos of.

Thanks for those pictures mitchellh. Here's my FR8, er I guess I should say FR8's. I like em and keep one on the ATV just in case a black bear insists on giving me a bit of trouble while out on my ATV trails here in Southern Colorado. The light colored wood back by the butt plate is from putting on a temp slip on boot (recoil pad). That makes shooting them much more fun.

I run across these from time to time. I have sold about 3 FR-8's and 2 or 3 FR-7's. I finally kept an FR-8 for mysef and love it. I may have a line on an FR-7, I'll know ifn a couple of weeks.

I got one here a month or so ago. Accurate with port but shoots about 6" to the right at 100 yds. There does not appear to be any provision for adjusting the windage though. Seems strange...........
WiFAL
July 17, 2008, 07:46
You adjust windage with the front sight post. There's a set screw that holds the post; loosen it and the post will rotate. The post is actually bent a little. That's where the windage adjustment comes from.

motosapien,
This page will help;
http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting2005/FR8FSRework/index.asp
"The front sight post is a very unique design. It is adjustable for both windage & elevation. The bottom of the post has very fine threads. Turning the post counterclockwise will raise the level of the front sight post, effectively lowering the POI (Point Of Impact) on the target.
A second, interesting feature of the FR8’s front sight post is that it also has a windage adjustment feature. The post is eccentric on the base. That is, it is not centered on the base, but slightly off set. This way, turning the base very slightly effects a change in windage POI. "

The FR8 I just got is in great shape, but someone did a trigger job and it's too light for me.
Guess I'll be ordering a new trigger and sear from Gunparts Corp.
How hard is it to change out the trigger/sear?

If it's like other mauser triggers it's as simple as can be. Do not fear, dive right in.

I recognize them when I see them, but what it the difference in the FR7 and the FR8? The rear sight?

The FR7 is built on a small ring mauser while the FR8 is on a large ring.
Different stock, same sights.

Yeah, now he won't have any use for the Cetme sling that he got from me. At the next NM Gun Show, he'll probably offer it back to me for about four times what he paid for it --- hey, wait a minute, I don't think I ever got paid for that sling. Now who said there's honor among thieves.

Whew! Just got back from the range w/ the FR-7. Little bugger can still put rounds on target when I actually shoot worth a damn  . Printed a 1" group at 25 yds (or what was left of that part of the range, friggin shipdits!) but that was with two called flyers that didn't even touch the damn fence post! I sucked royally today folks! I could still keep all five rounds on a man-silhouette at 100 yds. but while he might not have been dead if real I gave his right shoulder hell. Compared to my sewer-pipe M48A, well, I hit it 5 times with the FR-7 and once with the Yugo.
Still mad cuz I left my $5 Wal-Mart chicken spinner at the range by accident  . And then dropped my loaded Wilson mag in the dirt. Buddy I sucked today. Stress I tell ya'!

Saw two at the fun show (gun flea market) today, both FR-8s. Nice looking guns, about $325 each. No dough so no new toys back at the homestead. Seems to be the going price. M1943s aren't too bad though, only $175-$200 for decent shape. Just wish I had the dough to get that ammo. 350rds of corrosive 7.62 NATO for (drum roll) $100! May have to see if that guy will break that up somewhat...
