Well, I got up today like I normally do..rubbed the sand out of my eyes, drank a bottle of water and went to the head to take my normal morning dump...while on the can I get a knock on the door that their is a box waiting for me, something about a 'gun' or something...so I take my time thinking the old lady dosent know what shes talking about..I come out a few minutes later a couple lbs lighter and there is a box from CMP just waiting for me..no email notice or anything..they just shipped it straight out it appears...thank god we were at home..beautiful rifle..service grade..no pitting I can see,no cracks on wood..what a piece of gear!.

That sure was a trip down memory lane. Thanks for sharing.

I got mine years ago through the the old DCM Program. I hadn't really thought about it for a long time.

Very nice! I am sitting in the vault looking in a cabinet at mine and remember the day I got them. Told my boss I got bit by a bug and had to take care of the itch!

Nice - humped one of them when I first joined the Marines as a young 0311. I don't think it is as good a battle rifle as the M-14, humped one of them in Vietnam, but it was, and is, a fine rifle.

How much, he asked curiously??

Good on ya! I went to the CMP North Store in Port Clinton and they didn't have any service grades left there. I found a good field grade with muzzle wear of 1.5 and throat erosion less than 2. I wanted a service grade terribly though. I can't say that I am disappointed with mine. I just have to replace two parts to make it a correct grade.

They have disassembly guides for the M1 all over the net. When you take it apart to clean it, take note of the serial numbers and manufacturers of your parts. Then you can start looking around for the parts you need to make your rifle correct.

Good luck! Let us know how it shoots! I am curious as to how many parts you need to make it correct too.

Have fun!

I have told so many people about these M1 deals out there. I guess most people would rather just pay $1000 plus and "have it right now", even back when they were $250!

People never cease to amaze me.

Long ago and far away my battle sight setting was 10 clicks up. Enjoy:whiskey:

Just checked my M1 with the gunsmith..receiver was made 'after 1945' and the barrel is stamped 1955..so it looks like a Korean war rifle era..but it looks like it never saw combat..barrel is sweet and everything else including stock shows little use/abuse..I lucked out! Now my brother is hot for the deal..told him to sell his AR and 'git er done' while the gittins good

Well, went to the range today with that new M1 Garand..87 degrees out, no wind and heres my group...first three were high so I dialed it down and shot a .627 3 rd/ group..at 100yds..this was after I shot 40+ Rds ad I let the barrel cool off for about 15 minutes..after it heats up it spreads a little but still WAY more accurate than my FAL
