Gun control still in force, chief says
Semiautomatics banned
Gary Emerling
Saturday, June 28, 2008
The Supreme Court decision overturning the District's handgun ban won't trigger an open season for guns, Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said Friday, because D.C. law still bans all semiautomatic weapons — such as the common 9 mm pistols used by police and the military.
But the D.C. ordinance — which, like the overall handgun ban, is among the strictest in the country - could be next in gun rights advocates' cross hairs.
"I can't say right now what we'll do legally, but there's definitely a problem with this law," said Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association (NRA), during an exclusive online live chat with The Washington Times Friday morning.

I guess they missed the (Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those
“in common use at the time”) thingy.

So sue them again and this time just for the hell of it. They don't have an unlimited budget to defend this stuff, the NRA has close to a half a billion dollars, and apparently is willing to use it.
I just had a brainfart, we should round up as many S&W 500's and Taurus
Tracker 454 Casull's as we can and send em to DC. Dirty Harry a couple badguys with some major lead and they'll be beggin' for some Glock 9s.
So after you blow the top of his head off use your free hand to dial the free pick up service.

Its time for Congress to take this subject away from DC locals altogether.
TITLE VI -- RESERVATION OF CONGRESSIONAL AUTHORITY
RETENTION OF CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY
SEC. 601. [D.C. Code 1-206] Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, the Congress of the United States reserves the right, at any time, to exercise its constitutional authority as legislature for the District, by enacting legislation for the District on any subject, whether within or without the scope of legislative power granted to the Council by this Act, including legislation to amend or repeal any law in force in the District prior to or after enactment of this Act and any act passed by the Council.

Aren't semi-automatics a "whole class of weapons"?

They really don't get it, do they? Looks like someone needs to file a civil rights lawsuit now to really get their attention. The phrase 'Kicking and screaming' comes to mind, like when the Clintons left the White House and took everything that wasn't bolted down.
If I was a taxpayer there, I'd be having a fit right now. Talk about a useless waste of money. I have a sneaking feeling that they are afraid the crime rate will go down, and some heavies behind the scenes are playing Wizard of Oz to them.

Cathy Lanier sucks...
Whoever replaces her will suck...
We need legislation that would make politicians and other public officials individually/personally responsible for passing laws that are unconstitutional. RICO Act consequences would be appropriate...

Isn't judicial malfeasance a crime?

New York City tried the same BS after the Volkmer-McClure--the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 was enacted. They still will not let you carry to the city.
Perhaps the recent affirmation of our rights will help right that wrong as well!
357 mag. will beat a 9mm hands down. they want to play games. like someone said above before me the 454 casule(sp) or a 500 wm Bear gun. not a toy. but will kill a bad guy DRT.so DC has more shootings by Thugs, and they can't understand why they have a crime problem. sad and strange. F -DC~Richard-------------------------------you can get a 10 mm weelgun and a 9 mm weel gun. so you can find a wheel gun that can do the job, and boy how~R:biggrin:  :whiskey:

They really don't get "it" because they don't want to get "it."
They make me think of Ol' George Wallace standing in the school house door saying that he: "Don't care what the damn Soopreem Coat says!" Maybe it will take calling out the National Guard and arresting a few "Officials" to get them to obey the law.

Canadians have been raised to believe laws apply to Caucasoids only. They are accustomed to ignoring laws under the cover of civil disobedience. They threaten to destroy the landscape if judicial decisions don't go their way as they chant, "No Justice- No Peace!"
So what makes anyone think they will obey this decision. Here in Atlanta, the Mayor and airport administrator have declared they will not obey a new state law allowing CC at the airport on the freedom side of the security check points. The new law says we can carry on public transportation, state parks, etc.
The public transportation to the airport is MARTA and it is a rail train; legal to carry on it. The train pulls into the airport and unloads, placing you in the entrance of the airport. The mayor has said you will be arrested if you disembark at the airport. So she is saying you can carry on the train, you just can't get off.
The state is now suing the mayor for AGAIN refusing to obey a state law. She, and the other Canadians that run the city, don't want to obey state legislation but run to the state legislature every time they forget to repair city infrastructure and need money because the federal government is suing the city for non-compliance with federal environmental laws.
They forgot to repair the sewage system for the last 40 years because they were taking so many trips to Africa on "business". Their last request was for $1.4 billion. The state said NAH! Every year they have more budget than dollars so they lay off police and firemen but keep their over paid blotted staffs that use city credit cards to buy blow jobs and rent cars for trips to Los Vegas. Man you should see the mess over cell phones and black berries!
Oh, well! Why should they obey the law? Never have before.

Exactly my point, especially in light of a valid, declared and decided CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATION. Where's Jesse, Al "Twana Brawley' Sharpton on this injustice? The bruthas aren't allowed to bang a cap on some banga's azz to defend their crib? No contradiction there, eh? Oh I forgot, they have armed guards. All that 'Whitey hate' that finally guaranteed to them as well , that right went right down the tubes it appears?

D.C. uses its own definitions when it comes to passing anti-gun laws. In D.C. any gun that is capable of firing 12 rounds, or more, without reloading is a machine gun, even if you have to pull the trigger once for each shot.

Yeah, I fired a letter off to the idjits at the Violence Policy Center about that as well. I guess the city lawyers in DC are using the stash that Marion Berry left in the office when writing ordinances.
