Could an AOW be built from a semi-auto RPD?

If you got the tools / machinery, you can build all sorts of cool wierd stuff (with permission & tax stamp if needed)

I'm saving up parts to make a 9MM AK 47 and run it off a Suomi drum mag
mated to an Uzi barrel set into an AK trunion. A true Franken build

IIRC - an AOW is the only NFA type which must be built on a virgin receiver. So I believe that you can't convert an existing rifle if that is what you have to start with. You could do an SBR though...

I've seen RPD parts kits but no receivers for sale for these... or am I not looking in the right place?

I know there are semi-auto RPD's out there and I have seen the parts kits. I don't know if anybody has offered the virgin receivers though. That would be the sticking point for an AOW if my info is correct.

Vector is making receivers. I'm sure they'd sell one for the right price.

It is $200 either way to create. I would start with a functioning firearm and go from there.

I thought an AOW was $5 and an SBR was $200?

An AOW is $5 to TRANSFER but $200 to make.

Yep, thats the catch.... you would be better off IE cheaper, if there is such a thing where this is concerned, to go SBR. Seen a few belt fed HK51's, I can image this would be a beast as well..... remember those guys have no hearing protection...

Zoom is correct. Either with a virgin receiver built as an AOW or a complete rifle you still have to file a form 1 with $200 to create a new weapon. Once it is completed an AOW can be transfered for $5 but a SBR will require $200.

Yup. The making tax for an AOW is $200.

I know that back in the day when you could make a machinegun by paying your tax and filing the form the BATF would not allow you to create an AOW from an existing firearm which had a buttstock before. If you wanted to create an AOW from a shotgun it had to be a virgin receiver or a pistol grip configuration from the factory.

I understand that since that time the BATF has changed their mind on a number of things and gone where no logic had gone before on some other things (the ten evil parts list for example). So this point may hace changed as well. If you are serious about this project I would advise you to look into this point. But then I would also recommend you do an SBR - folding stock if that floats your boat.
