I purchased my first FAL last week, a Century Arms L1A1 Imbel upper receiver on an Enfield lower.
I'm planning on going to the range tomorrow and trying it out.
Any hints on sighting in the FAL i.e. yards, etc.
Also, how do you adjust the front site? Do you need a special tool, or is there a trick to adjusting it without boogering it up?

This thread has some discussion of this issue...

On an L1A1 there's a grub screw that locks the adjustment of the front sight, after you've loosened that you can screw the front post up or down with whatever - the cleaning kit came with a multi-tool that had the relevant attachments - you can see it in this picture:

Gunthings has a tool for metric foresights (http://www.gunthings.com/faltools.htm).

The "grub screw" should be secured with Loctite once a suitable setting has been obtained.
Otherwise, it will be lost for sure.
Once that screw is loosened, any needle-nose plier type of tool will turn the front sight.
Don't use Loctite on the shaft of the front sight - only on the "grub screw."

Yes, I'm sure anyone would manage fine with a Leatherman Tool.
There wasn't much Locktite going around when we were on the ranges however. Providing you do regular preventative maintenance I don't see the need for it. As part of routine cleaning you should ensure all screws are tight, as well as examining parts for damage.

I was told to sight in at 25 yards one inch low. This sets the sights for 200 yards.

Thanks for all the help.
I read through the falfiles for several months before pulling out my wallet and getting a FAL. The helpful nature of the community here really helped me to decide on the FAL. That, and I've wanted one since I was about 12.
BTW, is there anyone on the forums from El paso?
