Hello Gent's, please post if you are going to make it to the fun.
We could use this thread to get together for travel as Gas prices are strangling us all.
The Pearl (boat) is a gas sipper but we will need to chip in for gas, or I can make some long oars and we can row?? Hehehe..
Hardly any posting going on in our section, are you guy's down in the dumps?

My dad and I will be there. Probably bringing a couple kids a couple days early to camp. I'd mentioned setting up camp on the island to 'save' it from others who were thinking it was a good idea.
Dave, I'd love to compensate you for gas (and then some) if you could get us over to the island on Thursday afternoon. We can talk about it when I come over to help set up the range.
If all goes as planned, I'm bringing my brother, who has an FAL that my dad and I built for him.
I've been talking up steaks, salmon, and crawdads - but with the salmon season we had, we may have to go for 2-out-of-3 (not bad...).
Peace.

Don't count the Salmon out yet. I have a couple of packages of Spring Chinook in the freezer and a month to get more.
Looks like i will be working untill June 6th and then my future is unknown. If they decide to find more work for me at my plant after the 6th of June it will have to be in agreement with the FAL shoot weekend off.

As some of you may have noticed I have had a run of bad luck with getting my receiver.
I am hoping to have a receiver from a Washington resident in the next week.
At this point I will be posting hot and heavy trying to get some of the "tools" I need to complete my build.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that I have everything that I need. I know for a fact that I need to borrow some head-space gauges.
Please PM me for a location and date. I am also hoping to score a new GPS in the next week or so.
If the stars do in fact align, I will have one to two friends in tow who are also FAL owner/operators.

There are plenty of guys around here that would be happy to loan you tools. I live south of Portland by 1.5 hours, but you could borrow my gauges in a pinch. There are some fellows in Portland that have tools and know-how.
Camping location is at Prineville reservoir, and the shoot happens in the general vicinity. Look for more info closer to the shoot. Possibly by PM for those who confirmed that they are coming. Not a secret, but probably not widely published, either.

Do they actually cycle the action? I would've thought they needed back pressure from a projectile for the gas system to work. I'm wrong a lot though.

Hey Dave, looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks for the work party.
Yep, you guessed it, you're hearing from the Komode King.
How's my island restroom that you promised me? I've picked out some lovely hand/bath towel sets and some little soaps that are just to die for!
I completely understand about the bidet...would've been nice though.
Also, I'm gonna say no thanks to the fuzzy toilet seat. I had an "episode" at a relatives house a few years ago that I'd rather not repeat.
As far as the "papier du toilet"....I'm gonna have to insist on a two-ply minimum. I'd prefer to have no pictures or patterns on the sheets and I simply MUST insist on it being installed on the dispenser in a "top sheet over" fashion.
I'll bring my own reading material and air freshener.
Finally....and I feel like a complete cad for demanding the CD player be installed, but my collection of "motivational" songs will cut my "down time" in half.
Thanks again, kind sir...
P.S.- The locks we discussed should be sufficient to keep Nate out. He talks like a Mountain Man, but we on this side of the hill know what a raving "fancy lad" he really is. He doesn't know I know...but I saw "Mr. Bubble" on his list of stuff to pack for the Fal Shoot. The big sissy is actually planning on bubble bathing!

Well I screwed the pooch on that one. I thought the shoot was the end of may same week as Falfest. So when I was online a month ago booking tickets to come home for a week or so I booked for the 10-18.
Now I realize that I should have booked later so I could have attended a shoot at home. oh well, live and learn.
Hope you guys have a great time I am off to Falfest tomorrow.:whiskey:

It should have plenty back pressure with a blank firing adapter. I've never tried it but it should work.

I've got the day saved, so I don't mind coming over. Gas would be shared by three of us (Pluskat, Vagabond, myself). Dinner is on you  .
On the other hand, I'm coming over on Thursday (day before shoot), and I could get a lot done between Thursday noon and Friday at 4:00 PM. I'm going to be bringing 2x2 frames and tar-paper for the Handgun House in the gravel pit. It might be cooler to just set it up the day of, instead of two weeks before.
I'm bringing:
1) 100 gallon milk jugs (head shots) and some spray paint
2) 4 steel/armored rifle targets
3) (lots?) paper Army AQT targets
4) (lots?) paper targets with Shoot-n-See circles
5) (lots?) bad-guy paper targets for the 'House'
6) 2x2s and tar-paper for the 'House'
What I need:
1) Stands for big (2' x 3') paper targets
2) Shot timer (we might not use it)
3) Laser RF - would be great, but not critical
4) spotting scope - Sportsnut said he'd bring one, and my dad is up for #2
5) Pop-up shade thingy for firing line. Or three...
I've already said this, and I'm putting it out one more time so people can say 'aye' or 'nay': I think at 10:00 AM we shoot paper: get sighted in at 100 and 200 yards on standard targets, and then shoot Fred's Red Coat targets at 100/200/300/400. Then, since we'll already have a 200 yd. zero, at 2:00 PM we can shoot a round (or two) of steel and milk jugs at unknown distances.
Tons of fun, and it won't take long to set up. My vote is for following Dave's suggestion, and setting up the day of. I could use the time to get some rebar and weld up some target stands for the canyon, as well as build the 'Handgun House'. I have three questions:
1) Dave - will the mushrooms keep for a couple of weeks 'til we get there?
2) Dave - do we need to do anything at the canyon to 'make' a range, or is it a pretty clear field of fire?
3) Dave - do you have a three or four-wheeler we can use to change targets? It will be WAY better than walking out to 400 yards over and over. If not, I can bring one over.
4) Pluskat & Vagabond - what time are you heading over the mountain for the shoot? And on what day?
5) Nate had said that he and his guests will be leaving at oh-dark-thirty on Friday morning. Do you know if that is still true? Sportsnut had said the same thing, but I know he's looking to get that sorted out at work right now.
Peace.

Sounds great Brunop, day of, will work fine, the Morels are just comming up, will be after them this week. With the mushrooms comes my ol 4wheeler and its ready to do range work after I get lots of shrooms..
The canyon could use some popups? You and I brunop will check it out on thurday or friday morning.
Looks like we can get syncronized with the logistics so, cool, lets all let each other know what we are doing and when...
brunop
June 09, 2008, 00:57
My steel targets aren't so nice as pop-ups. I have armor gongs. I'd like to own some steel silhouette pop-ups, but I'm not spending the cash right now.
Anyway, the gongs will be good enough - we'll hear them at 100, 200 and maybe 300 (depending on the wind/breeze), and the spotter will see it at 400.
I'll talk to you as it gets closer to the date. So I'm good on stuff to shoot at the 'events'. 4 pieces of steel is probably enough (out to 400 or so), especially when the shooters are going to have to hit the blue-helmets of the UN invasion force, too. Good thing they make Cornflower Blue in a spray can...

Vacation time was confirmed with the boss on Thursday. I'm so there !
I'm picking up some more Spring Chinook Salmon from my Dad this weekend. We should have plenty of grub for the island people. Dave are we gonna have the gas grill to use again this year ? I also have my Crawdad traps ready to go and fresh Salmon heads for bait. Laser range finder and spotting scope sitting inside the traps so i don't forget. Still trying to decide what weapons to bring. Probably gonna pack lite on the weapons this year, maybe just a couple. I think i brought 7 last year and that was a pain in the ass to haul them and ammo all around.
I'm gonna have a lot of stuff to haul over, so I'm counting on my boys {you know who you are} to help me hump it to the island.

Hey Dave,
Is it warm over there yet?
Over on this side of the hills, well....Al Gore's a dipsh_t! I don't know from one day to the next if I should plan on cool and rainy or mild and sunny. Global Warming my ass!
The Pearl's doing fine...right?
I promise not to whimper in fear and hide down by the engine compartment on this next voyage. However, I think it would help if you refrained from repeatedly asking "What the hell was that noise?" and, "Do you smell smoke?" And....no I DIDN'T think it was nice when you and all the people at the boat launch laughed at me when I jumped out and kissed land. That "walk of shame" up the ramp was the longest stroll I've ever taken. It didn't help that nobody on shore bought my "the wet spot in the FRONT of my pants was because of water in the boat" explanation. "Fear piss" is a cruel label indeed!
Seriously though, looking forward to seeing you again and playing in your neck of the woods.

Oh, I've got questions, but I don't know that you have the answers for these. Here is a sampling:
1. Where is my million dollars?
2. Why didn't I buy that Colt Python in stainless from Bi-Mart when I was in high school and Bi-Mart decided to close out their handgun inventory? (price was $350...)
3. Why didn't I buy that pre '86 Colt AR 15 for $600 when I was in high school?
4. Why didn't I learn about the FAL about four years earlier, so that I could spend all my money on receivers when they were $189 instead of $450?
5. Why did the drunk who ran me over in my front yard at 40MPH and gave me a broken neck, collarbone, ribs, and a head injury end up with $3M in a settlement from the city of Albany because the police beat him up - and I didn't end up with a red cent?
6. Why did I tell my father-in-law "No thanks" ten years ago when he offered to hand down his insurance agency to his daughter and her husband?
7. Why did it take three separate lessons to learn this: "Always get it in writing"?
8. Is GearPay encrypted? What does that mean to me? Can I write checks against it? Is there a back door in the encryption?
9. How much (or in my case, how little) money do you have to have to open an account at Credit Suisse in Portland, Oregon? Is that encrypted? Do I have to use an SSN like I do at other banks? Is that SSN reportable to the IRS?
10. Will gold be more useful than silver? Is oil going up or down? Stock market crash in 2008, or 2009?
11. How much ammo is enough?
12. When will I quit wanting 'matching numbers' kits and Imbel receivers?
Thanks for your time, swaami! I look forward to the answers as soon as you can get them.
Peace.
