View Full Version : Who makes a 1911 with a ramped barrel
Looking for another 1911 but I want one with a ramped barrel for positive feeding of hollow points. Are there any out there?

Para Ord. has the ramped barrel. As far as increasing reliability, I don't have much faith in ythat. My Para is way more ammo sensitive than any other 1911 I have or have had. The ramp has a tendancy to nose up the bullet so it jams against the top of the chamber. OAL on reloads is critical.

I think the shorty kimbers and springers are ramped.

I have 3 Paras, all ramped. And I have had just the opposite experience from Panzer. Mine feed everything. Even empty cases. But then I like to polish and tinker, so that may have helped.
My first was a frame kit and I cut it for a Clark ramped barrel. I was happy to learn later that this is the pattern P-O went with, and mine just happen to interchange.
Sometimes ya just get lucky....:bigangel:

another thought, unless you are using the original narrow cut feed ramp, and chamber cut designed for ball ammo the widened ramps on modern pistols seem to work well. there is also hp that is pritty close to the ball ammo's shape. Have you tried hp in your current 1911?
The Rem 185 Golden Sabres +P dont feed to bad. They have a small diameter hollow point. Plus they move out of the barrel at around 1100 fps for 490 ft lbs of energy. One of my favorite 45 rounds. But they do jam every so often. Sometimes they feed but the bullet gets pushed back into the case a bit. This can result in over pressure rounds. Thats why I want a ramped barrel.
Is the Sig 220 ramped?

Who doesn't these days? besides Colt that is. More common on alloy frames but offered by everyone that's worth having, you just have to ask for the specs on the barrel when you're shoppin.
