I have the opportunity to buy this bayonet and I'm wondering what a reasonable price would be - I don't want to rip off the seller, nor do I want to be taken to the cleaners myself.

Here's another pic - it also says "AFH" (I think) along the edge of the handle (not visible in these pics).

OMG,,,, looks like they took a disc sander to it :uhoh:
Wouldent be worth more than $20. to me, YMMV

Wow - seriously, it's that bad? The guy was saying (and I knew this was nonsense) that these "sell for $350'....

Yea, I think it looks pretty rough from the pic's, plus the sheath has some good wear and a well rusty hanger.
I dont pay a lot of attention to the cut down bayo's, which is what that is from the fuller running to the tip of the blade.
I have a few in the collection, but I prefer the earlier long blades.
That UFH (union fork & hoe) started life with a long blade and was cut down to the current length later, as lot's were for reissue.
Last I noticed, decent original condition ones w/ sheath could be had for about $75. or so.
Cheers, YV
It took me a year to find one in my price range, but last year I paid $70 for this at a show.

Thanks for all of the replies! I offered the guy $30, citing the bad condition and comparable items on Ebay (but in much better condition), and he balked... So I guess I won't be buying that rusty bayonet after all! :)
By the way, what would be more appropriate for a 1943 Garand - the long blade, shortened or short blade version? (Not sure of the correct terms there, but you probably know what I mean!)
I guess both? Mine is dated 43, and is correct. We started the war with the longer bayos but at some point (no pun) went to the shorter ones, the longer bayos were sent back and cut down & re-issuied.
Wow. The one I bought was in much much better shape than that. Coolness!
