As luck would have it, I was able to get two recent production DSA receivers side by side. One is Inch and one is Metric. They are TYPE 1 receivers with similar radius cuts.

Photo 1 shows the left side over all. Notice the cuts up front for the different charging handles, the Inch receiver having been shortened for the folder. Also a difference at the rear of the CH slot, maybe the pin is different?

This photo shows a little closer look at the front ends.. Again the shorter CH slot, but also a litte difference perhaps for the detent?

Now on to the right side, primary difference is the lightening cuts. Inch has a simple slot, Metric has the fancy trapazoid doohicky. Probably doesn't make a difference??

Now here's the 'Money Shot', what everyones been waiting for..
Drumroll please.... brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr the mag well. Metric has the puny little dimple, and the Inch has the manly cut! Also a half-ass shot of the charging handle slot from the 3/4 underneath pretty useless angle.

And finally, inside of the receivers, near the latch.. photo shows both have the sand cuts, and Inch has a little more relief for the dust cover tabs. A pretty insignificant detail IMHO..

differences are:

Charging Handle cut: thinner rail on metric. sand down back of inch Fold to fit metric.

Top Cover tab cut: not present on metric. Can use metric dustcover

Internal Sand cut (probably not a biggie) = different style (longitudinal instead of radiused on a type 1/2 metric)

Mag Well cut:larger rectangular cut on metric. Can be added to a metric, but is a difficult procedure - cannot be made to same depth on a type 1 metric without beeaking through the front so don't copy it exactly

Hole for BHO in ejector block - the metric is about .0015 smaller diemeter, a metric BHO fits an inch but not the other way.

ALSO - on the mag catch spring the inch is larger diameter as is the recess for it on the e-block. can be opened up. a metric spring doesn't give same travel so even if using an inch mag catch on metric receiver, should open the hole slightly and use inch s;pring.

Lightening Cuts n- external (I don't think this affects performance): but an early canadian has the trapezoidal cuts of a metric 1/2 so its not totally wrong on an inch gun.

Except for those Imbel inch receivers where the charging handle cut, dust cover rails and the magwell cut are the only clues you get...fortunately that's all you need!
