What needs to be done to install a metric barrel in an inch receiver?

Nothing, the barrel will fit. However if you use the inch lower, the height of rear sight may be off. I think it will be too high? I may be wrong on that. I think if it is an Izzy barrel, the threads may have to be chased.

JT is right. "Metric" guns actually use traditional threads, as was the case world-wide with most gun companies until the '60s. The only truely Metric gun is the Izzy which uses metric spec everything. The Izzy bbl thread pitch is so close to the others chasing the receiver theads with a tap works fine.

If you're mounting an "inch" barrel on a "metric" spec reciver you just mount it the same way you would on an "inch" receiver. You will, however have to make adjustments to things like sights etc. depending on which lower and such you are using.

The problem (as others have mentioned) is the gas block on the inch barrel is different, and the front sight sits higher on the inch vs the metric. So if you put a metric barrel w/metric gas block on the inch lower, the front sight will be too low.

Switching gas blocks is not an easy thing either, as the inch gas ports are drilled in at an angle, and the metric is 90 degrees. So you cannot simply take the inch gas block and put it on a metric barrel and expect it to work properly.
