Hello out there,

Does anyone know the significance of a "S S" stamping on the side of the stock down near the butt plate of a Remington 03A3? Any information would be helpful.

Thank you,
Pete

Total SWAG!

Used to be an outfit called "Springfield Sporters". They used to build and rebuild 1903's. Don't think it's the same as Springfield Sporters, Inc., the parts site with the name now.

Hello Mainer,

What exactly is meant by "total SWAG"?

Thank you,
Pete

S.W.A.G: A method of determining an answer to given question, usually a difficult question to which one does not have a knowledgable answer.

scientific wild a** guess

Thinking they might have built or restored the 03A3. Can't find any info in my library about it.
Is it modified in any way?

Mainer,

If you want, you can go to GunBroker.com and go to advanced search. Click on search by item number and enter: 98477561. That is the rifle. It looks real nice to me but who knows. If you have a chance to check it out, I would appreciate your feedback. I asked about the barrel condition and was told that there was no pitting and it was in very good condition.

Thank you,
Pete

Congradulations!!

It's been a long time since I've seen one in that condition. All Remy that I can see. Looks like a prize to me.

Don't see the ss?

See it now! Didn't show up first time, didn't see pic #22 before also.

Interesting, looks to be an arsonal mark, but not listed in any cortouche or rebuild stamp lists I can find.

E-mailed a 1903 guru, will let you know if he finds anything.

Bill,

In another photo of the rifle there is a boxed OG cartouche on the stock. From what I have learned from this thread, I am thinking that this denotes an Ogden rebuild. The piece seems to be in great shape. What would you estimate the value at?

Take care,
Pete
