I am timing an L1A1 barrel to a Century Arms US made upper receiver. The breech washer that came with the parts set is .058" thick and with this in place the barrel times by hand at the recommended 11 o clock but the Bbl breech contacts the front edge of the feed ramp area before the washer is tight between barrel shoulder and receiver ring.
The threaded shank on the barrel measures .878” in length leaving .820” with the washer in place. But the receiver socket is only .818” deep.
Without the washer and with the breech against the feed ramp the barrel still times at 11 o clock and the gap feeler gages @ .060".
I’m thinking some material has to be removed from the breech or the inside of the receiver. Which method would be acceptable?
.002" to .004" is the amount that would have to be removed.
