View Full Version : Authentic British pattern receiver?

Does anyone make or plan to make a British inch pattern receiver?
I have seen a few Aussie pattern ones but am looking for a British pattern one.
I have also heard that the proper style lightning cuts can be made on a common type 3 receiver. When I compare pictures of both, I can see that it is probable. If there is not a British pattern receiver available, does anyone know who will do this machining?

Brit styles don't exist, although a couple of us hope to do this on our own at some point with Type 3s. Entreprise will make the internal inch lightening cuts on their T-3 for a small fee, but the external Brit-specific cuts must be done elsewhere. Some specially ground tooling will be required.

Anyone have the prints for the Brit cuts?
I own a machine shop and could mod type 3's to make Brit receivers or C1A1's if I had the specs for either.

If prints are not available, could you replicate the cuts from old chunks of receivers maybe?
I am sure there are some front and middle parts floating around somewhere.
I have seen a lot of Aussie fronts and middles so there must be some Brit ones out there somewhere.

As noted, there is a growing group of us who are looking into this (and C1A1 pattern). Given the more industrial nature of the cuts on the Brit, one would think they'd be easy to do.
There are plenty of pics out there to be had, and some enterprising fellow sells receiver sections on gunbroker. Additionally, a few members on here have demilled Brit receivers that could be used for models.
Also, see the thread in group buys...

I believe that gunplumber had a few done but the cost was so high they did not sell well so he gave it up. It was quite a while back. It may be that he had the Aussie version made prior to DSA making them. In any case, the money did not work.
Donor receivers would be a problem, too. You prly need a type III and the gear logo stamp on Imbels is too deep to remove.

I have tried to buy late Brit receiver halves but they go for insane $$$$ on Gunbroker.
I don't want to use Pictures, I would like to get numbers closer to the real thing that way no one can say "Well... it pretty close."
If we can get good Intel, I can do them in a CNC mill and this will help keep the cost down.
This is not a big deal, it is simple machining at the end of the day, just need the numbers.
If anyone here has any pieces let me know.

SIG,
I don't know when the Brits went from the "Classic" type one cuts to the more "Industrial"
cuts. Can you email me a pic of your receiver?

I may be able to help with this too, but going to visit mom in a few minutes, so PM or email me. Email is better.
Entreprise has said they will do the inch internal lightening cuts to one of their T-3s, so the external Brit cuts could be done. The serial numbers are under the ejection port so won't interfere with any machining. And their engraving on the left side is shallow and easy to remove to have the proper font engraved.
Seems this would be the perfect candidate for a Brit.:fal:
