Just picked up the 28-2 I bought on Gunbroker from my FFL. It's nicer than I thought it would be, actually!

Anyway, I don't have any good pix yet...it was dark when I came home, but can anyone give me a born on date?

Thanks!

Standard Catalog of S&W Third Ed. says 1982-1986, but since yours has a pinned barrel and counterbored cylinder, which were deleted in 1982, it's probably about 1982.

The Highway Patrolman is an excellent sixgun, strong, smooth, accurate. I felt that it was the best value in S&W's catalog for years.

Good score!

Thanks, gents!

They guys over at the S&W forums concur that it's most likely a late '82 model...one of the last P&R guns.

I've wanted a 28 for a long time; a sentiment exacerbated by shooting Otis' Model 28 earlier this year with stellar results.

I've been on the prowl ever since.

I consider myself lucky to have found this one so inexpensively!

My first 357 was a 28. Back then, the 27 was the gun to have and the $165 for a like new but used 28 was a lot better deal than the $265 the 27s were pulling.

Very nice 28, good score.

$165 was probably still a good chunk of change back then, though....worth every penny however!
