sorry for asking this stupid question, but how do you remove the gas tube to clean it? i went shooting yesterday w/ my new fal that didnt come w/instructions on how to break it down and clean it. i've been looking on the net and i found out how to build one and i'm trying to back step it but i'm not seeing the pin. do i try to unscrew the back piece at the reciever? i turn the the front part w/the letter A on it but dont see a pin or a way to release it. i just need alittle bit of direction, thanks to any one who has the time.

You don't need to remove the gas tube to clean your FAL.
Just mop it out with a paper towel wrapped (loosely!!!) around a bore brush.
If you don't wrap the paper towel loosely, you WILL be removing the gas tube to for reasons you don't need to have.
The pin is on the gas block, to the rear of the front sight tower.
You gotta completely unscrew the gas knob to get at it.

If you're just wanting to remove the gas plug from the front of the gas block in order to clean the piston & tube, then you don't need to remove the pin.

You don't remove the gas tube to clean it!
You remove the gas plug, take out the piston and spring and poke things down the tube to clean it. Preferably not things that will gouge bits of metal out of it. You only remove the gas tube to replace it because it's damaged. Or if you really must take something apart for no particularly good reason which, it's true, I can relate to - but then I break stuff alot.

sorry for the misconception that i'm trying to remove the gas tube, i was reading a posting on how to buid a fal and i was going in reverse to figure out how to disassemble that area to clean the gas rod and spring. but there was a mention of a pin and i didnt see one on mine and i was just asking "where is this pin". then i saw the pic and i dont have a pin in that spot. i've had the rifle for 3 days and trying to read as much on it, so sorry again for the lack of knowledge.

thanks for the info, i was tapping it w/a hammer and a screwdriver but your way was simpler. i thought it was stuck. small scratches in the front but live and learn.

The plunger button on the gas plug needs to be at 6 o'clock to remove the gas PLUG on any FAL.
Sometimes they can be very stubborn.
If your plunger is at 6, give it as much ass as it takes.

Does the gas tube go all the way from the gas block back to the receiver ?
Or, only a few inches back from the gas block ?
The long version has a pin holding it in place and is removable.
The short version is soldered in to the gas block and should be left alone.
DSA usually has the short tube versions on their new builds.
They work as well or better than the full length gas tubes.

For that evile day when the paper towel, patch, or whatever decides to part company with the rod deep in the guts of the gas tube.
A .22 cleaning brush, twisting clockwise till it grabs hold & then pull & twist till it extracts will get you "out of the hole":shades:
