I ordered a two piece Fal receiver wrench from brownells and boy does it suck, it fits on the front edge of the receiver and is so ill fitting it crushed the cocking lever slot and bent the gas tube threads when we barreled the rifle, it is not a good design. The wrench should be moved back on the receiver where there is some meat away from the thin threaded gas tube area, but it can be moved back because of the design...Stay away from this product...it is poor... Is that the AGI wrench? And was it a DCI receiver?

If you had purchased the Ratas wrench you wouldn't have had the problem, but then you probably wanted to save a few bucks. Research is the key to success.

Learn from your lesson, buy Rata's wrench and move on.

The Brownell's wrench is made to fit a variety of FAL receivers.
There is a wide variety of sizes in FAL receivers in this area, believe it or not.
One usually has to make shims out of brass, or other softer material to fill the
gaps and give the wrench an even pressure all the way around. Perhaps you
should examine your build process and your own skill level before calling a
quality tool from a quality company junk.
I have barrelled numerous FALs with a Brownell's wrench, and have never
damaged the first one. But I am careful with a $400.00 receiver. Sounds like
you were in a hurry and are trying to blame the tool for your own lack of
skill and knowledge.

I was barreling a Enterprise Type 3 receiver with a Brownells two piece wrench head, I have no problem with brownells as a company, they are a top notch company.. I have a problem with the design of the wrench which is poor. I didn't buy it, my friend did, I just ordered it for him and it was his rifle we were building. I've built about 10 Fal type rifles, before this one, but I used a custom made wrench a gunsmith friend made to barrel them with before, and it fit perfectly... It is true I was in a hurry as the weekend was the only time he could build it together, and I guess I can blame myself for using it as is... when I should have modified it with a dremal tool and moved it further up the receiver before working on it.. so I'll do that now. It's just too bad you pay almost $70 for a tool and than you'll have to take a grinder to make it work..correctly.. B2B

I brought the receiver and barrel tools from RATAS and they work as per advertized. The rifles that I just finished were numbers 4& 5 with his tools. when you put your barrel in the barrel tool it's there and will not move, Trust me, we tried. The barrel will not turn.
I would buy the tools from him again. by the way, hey RatAs if you see this, give me a call I looks like I could use the tap for the gas port to chase the threads with.

I adjusted the wrench head with a dremal tool so it will not damage a receiver now. It is now able to be moved up along the receiver away from the threaded piston hole and onto a more meaty area of the receiver. I'd buy a different wrench if I had it to do over again. but I didn't buy the wrench head originally a friend did. I already had the wrench handle and a M14 head from brownells so all he needed was a wrench head to build his FAL. I built a barrel vice using plans on guns & things... the bolts didn't clamp tight enough on the bench so I used a hydro press to clamp the vice down and hold the barrel in place. That worked well...
The rifle works just fine he test fired it last weekend, the slight damaged to the gas tube threads (out of round) has no effect on function...So it's a happy ending... B2B
