A local shop has a FEG Hi Power that is blued with wood grips. Anybody ever seen one of these before or have you shot one? I think he's asking over $300 for it, it's in decent shape. I've kind of been looking for a cheaper Hi Power like the FM made one, are these comparable?
Thanks all,
Dirt

It depends on when I was made. Some are 100% clones (early). then they cahanged the slide stop 99% (middle). Last ones were not compatable, they were cosmetic copies only. I would offer 275 out the door if it is an early or middle. I like them.

I've had a couple of the early ones. Worked well, only issue I've had was hammer bite :uhoh: - if you have fat hands you may need to change from the regular to rounded hammer to avoid getting bit.

Have one, love it. I think its an early one. Some of the edges are sharp on the slide release, thats the only real issue I've had with mine. Come to think of it I need to go and shoot it again.

I got one of these (brand new) from Centerfire a couple months ago and love it!
I just got a real FN HP from Aim this week and checked both guns and they are Identical! All parts interchanged (barrel, slide, frame) I had heard that the latest ones were different and had 3 lugs in the slide and on the barrel but this wasn't the case with the one I got. I paid $250 for the FEG clone from centerfire and $429 for the police trade in FN HP from aim, but i did get the hand picked for $20 more or it would have been $409.
I am pretty sure Sarco still has the shorter Detective FM high Power and they are real high powers made on FN machinery and licensed by FN.
I also got one of these and it is really nice!
I can't believe I went this long with no HP's and now I have 3!

I looked at SARCO and couldn't find anything on their website on FM hi powers:(
I did see a parts list and noticed that they sell frames. Is building an HP doable like a 1911?

Here you are!!! (http://www.sarcoinc.com/fm-hipower1-new.html)
Kind of a pain to find from the home page.
Probably be best to either call or e-mail as that is an old bookmarked page, I dont even see any guns for sale on the current homepage

I read a few people were looking for FM Hi-powers @Sarco. I picked up a detective model a few weeks ago from them, the even dropped the price below $300.

In regards to a FEG Clone, I saw a SA/DA version a couple of months back at a fun show, seemed like a good piece to me.

I have one of the early PJK-9HP from FEG which is suppose to be a carbon copy of Browning HP. bluing and finish are great and it shoots well. only problem was the original wood grips that where crap and poor fitting, replaced them with Pachmeyer rubber grips for a Browning HP which fit perfect. all aftermarket browning mags fit fine. paid 250 for it and it was woth it.

Well, it seems that everyone loves their FEG. Then I must have seen the only clunkers that FEG ever put out, because man, was the one I owned a DOG!
I bought mine in 1993 and thought that I had the best thing since sliced bread. I made an acquaintance who was a fellow 82d Abn alumni. We started talking guns and almost spontaneously we both mentioned that we had recently bought an FEG P9 and thought that they were great. Neither of us had shot ours yet though.
Shortly thereafter I took mine to the range and holy crap, it was one of the most inaccurate pistols I ever shot. Because the front sights were not dovetailed and the rear sight was only driftable, I didn't want to spend a ton of money trying to rehab the pistol. It had to go and go it did!
It was about six months before I again ran into the other guy with the FEG. Before I mentioned anything about mine, I asked him how he liked his He started swearing immediately, finishing by saying that it shot like a POS and that he had unloaded it.
So, for what it's worth, I can tell you that in 1993/94, I personally know of two FEG P9 pistols that weren't worth a squirt of piss.
Maybe they improved and maybe the sights are now better and dovetailed, I don't know as the only way I would ever look at an FEG again is if they were giving away their guns for free.

CDNN did have Charles Daly High Powers for 300 ish - they are very nice and mine is accurate and has a nice trigger - I would recommend one of these over the FEG if available.

The PJK 9HP is a true clone of the High Power. Early production models came with very nice deep bluing. Later production came with a black paint finish. Only the PJK 9HP is a true HP clone. All other models are only similar.
I got mine about two years ago in 99% condition w/ one mag used at Gander Mountain for $205. It runs flawlessly but I do get an occasional bite. I changed out the grips w/ Hoage wrap arounds. Any HP mag I've tried fits/works fine.
I like it and for as often as I shoot it's a lot better choice than getting a real HP.
