To Buy or Not to Buy

I've got a lead on a SAR 4800 that's been dressed up with USA compliant parts, (DSA flash hider & HTS, Tapco piston & cocking handle, USA made pistol grip, handguard and butt stock). It's been fired very little and comes with 9 mags and two battle packs of SA. I had an opportunity to fire 60 rounds out of it and everything ran fine. The asking price is $900.00 and I'm wondering if this is worth it or not. I've kind of had my heart set on an M1A but this rig sure feels fine and shoots very well.

Hey people. I've been out of the FN FAL scene for over 3 years and I truly don't know what SAR 4800's are going for. I always thought they were regarded as the "Ugly Sister" to the SAR 48's and didn't command no where near the premium that the 48's do. I had a 4800 and sold it over 2 years ago for $750.00 and I thought I did prety well. But, as usual when selling a firearm, I regretted it.

This deal kind of fell into my lap and I wanted to make sure that I was I was making an informed decision before purchasing it. Thanks for your comments.

OK, apples to oranges here, but the best deal I have found that I can take advantage of here in Canada is an 8mm SAFN 49, mismatched numbers, but with a new barrel assembly going for $650 Canadian at a time when we are about par with the US dollar. At a regular firearms auction that is held every 2-3 months or so, an 8mm SAFN went for $1240, a 30-06 went for $1410, and a .308 Argy went for about $1480 if I remember correctly. FAL based rifles of any flavour are prohibited licensed firearms here, and only people with hen's teeth licenses can purchase them. They ALL run over $2000.

Oh, and in case you are wondering, NOBODY can get a Prohibited Firearms Lisence if you did not already posess a firearm of one of the Prohibited classes when that law came into effect. You were "Grandfathered" and can pass down your Prohibited firearms to your direct decendents, sell them to someone who has a proper lisence, or you have to turn them in and have them melted down.

So, given the oportunity to own an FN FAL based rifle of any kind regardless of it's pedigree for $900 with the extras that you list, that shoots the way you have already enjoyed, I'm not sure where the doubt or hesitation stems from? Buy it, shoot it, and if/when you decide you've gotten you're fill out of it, I'm pretty sure you can sell it for little or no loss of $$ so long as you are not in a hurry to get rid of it. Again, apples to oranges from my own perspective, and just my 2 cents worth.
