I'm looking to buy a Para FAL, and was considering a DSA SA58 or STG58. Came across a Springfield Arms Para SAR48, but I don't know much about the Springfield guns.
These are all pre-89 guns, right? Are they priced similar to DSAs or are the more/less expensive?
How does the quality compare to the DSA guns? Any other issues I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

A SAR 48 PARA it is factory made FAL from a real FN licensed manufacturer and outstanding quality. It is one of the best all around FALs ever made, and that includes the Belgium's... IMHO they are better quality than DSA...
YMMV

I'm not sure that I would go quite this far...
I have a SA SAR-48 rifle and, while it's a very nice gun, I don't think that it's quite as nice as the DSA guns...
The SAR-48 rifles were made by Imbel in Brazil (which is a licensed FAL manufacturer) for Springfield Armory. They have chrome lined barrels and were painted over parkerizing...
They are nice guns, but, cosmetically, I don't think that they're quite as pretty as some of the DSA rifles (for example, on the SAR-48 that I have, the outside surfaces of the magwell are somewhat uneven under the paint. The DSA receivers are nicer).
Having said all this, I do think that the SAR-48 rifles are certainly worth picking up for the right price. And, strength-wise, they probably are the strongest FALs ever produced...
For what it's all worth...

There was one selling for $1400 on another board. It went pretty quick, so I figured it was a good price. That's what prompted me to post this thread.

FAL's are battle rifles, not race cars... The SAR 48s (4800s) are classic battles rifles in the truest sense of the word... The SAR 48s were all built on a FN licensed military production line and given a military finish... The DSA's are built on a civilian production and given a civilian finish...
Much like Colt Law Enforcement Carbines, LE 6920's, are built by Colt Defense using the M4A1 TDP and Bushmasters are built on a civilian production line with reverse engineering... They both have their place in the world, but if you are betting your life on your rifle, which one would you choose???

There was a factory Para here for sale a month or so ago that sold for asking price $ 1,800. It was advertised as 98%. Sold within a couple of days.
