So what is the best and cheapest surplus .308 ammo out there? I am tempted by Century's offer of German .308 since they have free shipping.

Dag stuff. good price, good ammo. I have both the battle packs and the 250rd cans and have had no problem with either. i want to order more but running out of space to store all my gun stuff. The wife is really getting upset. Order it before they run out.

Does Century still have the battle packs? Are they in 1,000 round crates?

I have some of the loose, de-linked stuff.

GunLvrMD:

Read the posts from the last 5 days here in the ammo section. Lots of good choices. Lots of good vendors.

Thanks for the info. I am starting to think I need a case of DAG and a case of Singapore (and I don't even have my L1A1 yet!). I still have sotrage space, I made an entire room in the basement a "gun room" and have it lined with shelves.

GunLvrMD-

Century is out of the battle packs of DAG .308. I just received 2000 rnds of the loose packed DAG, same ammo, just packed loose 250 rnds per can. I paid $262.93 for my two cases, with free shipping. So far, it is really good stuff. A little hotter than the South African stuff I had, but I have been told that the loose ammo is de-linked MG ammo, so this is normal. I like it alot. It runs through my R-1 on a gas setting of 5. I will get more, hopefully soon.

FNnuts,

Do the cans come with it for that price?
What headstamp is on this ammo?
The DAG I have in battlepacks is pretty nice stuff.

peace!

I am waiting for my Porto FNM 308 from Sportsman Guide, ordered 2400 rounds (in battlepacks) and total with shipping came to around $300 ..... that's a little more than 12c a round !! .. I used the 20% discount code from American Rifleman of course ....

I heard the Porto is very accurate and clean .... looking forward to try some at the range.

Stimpy:
The delinked DAG from Century is from several different batches, and has different headstamps. I bought 1,000 rounds and got 500 of one, and 250 of each of two others. They are headstamped:

1- DAG 10-65 then the NATO 'cross-in-circle' mark.

2- DAG 7.62 X 51 then the NATO mark.

3- DAG 67-25 then the NATO mark.

Ted Danmiller got some without the NATO mark, I think in battle packs.

It is loose, but all the rounds in each of my cans had the same headstamp.

The cans are odd, the width of a 7.62X51 cartridge inside, tall and thin. I don't know what they are, but I was never in the military.

Mine is all clean. Been too busy to shoot any but being German and NATO spec, it should be fine.

Is there a new discount code? That one has run out.

The new deal is $10 off on a $100+ purchase. SPG134, exp. 9/1/01. The 20% off was over with on May 20th. Guess they can't do it forever. ;)

Blackmore,

thanks for the code for 20% discount. I am a new NRA member but my American Rifleman magazine subscription did not show up till April. I used the discount and 2400 rounds or Porto 308 and 2400 rounds of SA 556 ammo are on their way, probably arrive today.
Thanks !!
