After decapping some berdan cases, I notice a projection between the
two flash holes. Is this projection to be removed before repriming?
Or, is it necessary to ignite the berdan primer?

Also, is there anything wrong with reloading military berdan ammo with crimped-in primers?
The instructions that came with my RCBS berdan decapping tool said "Do not use this tool to remove crimped-in primers found in most military cases."
But, I did it anyway, and it looks like it worked!?!

Leave that projection there. In boxer primed rounds the primer compound is set off by being crushed between the primer cup and an anvil that is inside the primer cup. Berdan primers don't have an anvil and are set off when the priming compound is crushed between the primer cup and the anvil in the case. That anvil in the case is the protrusion you see.

I tried the RCBS decapping tool & never had much success with it. The pointy thingummy would puncture the primers rather than remove them, and occasionally the tool marred the rims badly. I was using brass with crimped in primers... they recommend against that, I know.
