Hi.

A fellow shooter is looking for a source of FNM headstamped 7.62 x 51 mm ammo. Does anyone know who has this?

Back in the 80s I bought a FAL Para Model and as a part of the deal I got litterally a ton of 7.62x51. It has on the box 7.62x51mm BALL FNM 82-22 with the NATO cross. It's in 20 round brown boxes and is clean, bright ammo. The primers in these rounds are staked in, in three places. I still have a great deal of this ammo and my M-1A and my PD's M-14s love the stuff. It's clean, sure firing and I've never had a malfunction with it in any rifle. I wish that I could find more of it just to buy and put back.

Well, I had never heard of the stuff 'till yesterday. I waltzed into Long;s Drugs and they had it on sale for $35 for 200 rounds in battle packs. I bought all they had (800 rds). I don't think is was a "screaming" deal, but I think I did ok. I guess the ammo is of OK quality?

The ammo is Portuguese. I get mine from Sportman's Guide @ $130 plus shipping/1000 rounds. The 1972 vintage I shoot have gone bang every time the firing pin hits them. Have not chronoed them. Although this is a relatively low to medium price for them, a few people think that the shipping charge is enough to get the price per round into the medium to high end for plinking ammo. Personally, I don't mind the cost. A shipment of 1000 rounds will come in two parts, however, to keep the handling weight and shipping cost down.

It's good stuff. Not reloadable but still top of the list.

Has anyone chronographed the Port from Spotsmans Guide? Their ad says velocity is 2,252 f.p.s. and energy is 1,655 ft.-lbs. This seeems low to me for NATO spec ammo.
