I finally got my first custom bolt gun finished. I have been buying parts and working on this for almost a year. My friend Phillip Driskill of Locust Hill Arsenal in Matoaca VA built the gun for me and let me help with much of it. I know one thing, after bluing guns for 9 hours last Saturday, I will never complain about how much it costs to have a gun refinished. We built the gun on a CZ 550 safari action. it has a CZ laminate stock, Douglas #8 contour barrel, and a vais muzzle break. I just got back from breaking in the barrel and was very impressed with the Vais muzzle break. The recoil was less than most standard 30-06 hunting rifles and the stock CZ single set trigger is Great!!

Good lookin' rifle. The Douglas shop is a little over an hour from my house. They've let me tour their building and oggle over all their machinery. Great people.

Thats a Beauty! I had an #8 Douglas on a Winchester 70..fantastically accurate..love the feel of a heavy barrel, really stabilizes things..same barrel I was told that L.A.P.D. swat uses on their rifles
ran into a guy a few months ago in Spokane Wash..big black dude from Africa--was a hunter and has been using the 338 Lapua to great affect..said he killed a crock at over 450 yds with a brain shot with that round...extremely accurate and great downrange energy

All the parts including scope, reamer and headspace gauges cost about $1850. The barrel is 29" and the Vais muzzle brake adds about another inch. The overall length of the rifle is 52"

1850, not bad. Especially for a long range cannon like that. You could really poke someones eye out with that thing.
