I called one of my local suppliers sat. afternoon and all the radway green he had left was 340 rounds so I will pick it up at a show next weekend. he said he will carry the portuguese 308 after this. he did not say why he was changing what he carrys but he did say that the british surplus stuff is sold off about every ten years as they rotate their stock piles. so does that mean the rg ammo will dry up soon or will the price increase shortly as I believe the only way a local dealer would change something he says sales very good is his price has gone up or its harder to get from his wholeseller. please let me know other your thoughts on this as maybe I should look to stock up on some radway green as it shoots great in my fal. thanks jon

Port is fine ammo. They also make excellent G-3 clones.
As to the cycling of UK ammo, who knows? It never hurts: I just picked up a batch of US LC 80's era stuff for 170/1000, but it was the last this dealer had. He had LOTS of RG.

Surprisingly, yes, it's a favorite around here, hotter than Radway Green, more accurate in my rifle (STG),holding 1.5moa regularly, try it, I think you'll like it.
(One caveat, there may have been some batch afew years ago that may have exhibited some case failures, try searching" .308 FNM ",I could be wrong, maybe it was even another caliber.
I know that this was isolated, and understood that it was not with the dark plastic battle packs that I had.
I may buy some more from Dan's Sporting Goods.

Jon,
Port, RG, Herty all seem to be good.
See if you can try some before committing to case lots.
The failures refered to by Dirtfarmer seem to have been confined to "TZ 80". Watch out for that stuff. (check the ammo archives for more information)
Good luck.....

thanks I will try some. going up to the show in denver next week and pick some ammo up. but I'am going to take a mini-14 and a sks for trade on another fal . will look for a complete gun but with all the dealers will look out for a good kit or receiver at a fare price. if not I will just buy ammo and maybe get in on the kit buy. thank you again for the help jon

Portuguese is the best out there right now there in my opinion. It is accurate and I believe a little higher pressure than the others based on how far my rifles throw brass. I also saw a report on PMP from S. Africa which was encouraging.

The only Portuguese I have seen was headstamped, "FMN" with the NATO cross-in-circle and the year of manufacture.
What headstamp is on your?
Is there any prining on any of the boxes or the battlepack? Was it in a battlepack?
