What is the dished out area on the front right of the slide for (about a third of the way back)? Its on some models but not others..Maybe just he Inglis. (Hmm gonna go see if mine has it too.. ..nope it doesn't) Just curious.

That is called the thumb print. When the slide is locked to the rear in the disassembly notch, the thumb print lines up with the slide stop. It is just a clearance cut to allow the slide stop to be pushed out. It was eliminated in '60, right before the extractor was changed to external. There are fairly limited number of Hi Powers out there with no thumb print and the internal extractor.

Thanks Bryan! That's what I needed. Mine doesn't have that so I never took notice until I was admiring your post-war and it jumped out at me. They usually don't arbitrarily machine things so I was trying to come up with a reason for it to be there. Knew it had to have some history. :D Great collection btw!
