I have a real nice NM ized SA M1 Garand that the barrel is shot out on.
I also have a few BM59 goodies laying around and decided on a Franken
Garand. Slow and I are going to rechamber the Barrel to 30-06 and hook
up the guts back to original. The barrel is a brand new BM59 it's in 7.62x51. Reese Surplus is going to send me a
BM59 gas system and few other small parts for the front end and it should be an ubercool rifle.

I'm doing the same thing but havent got it put together yet.
Right it should be a nice compact rifle with out the mag hanging down.

I'm going to put a Holbrook device on mine so it will operate like the M1A.
And will avoid the Garand thumb.

There have been some attempts but to my knowledge none have been
very successful. YMMV.

I saw one of those BM-59 Tanker rifles today. That thing was badass! If you can swing it, go for it dude.

How does that work? Does it allow you to use stripper clips?

I'm not sure exactly how they work, but I want one. Here's a link to DGR
and the device is the last item on the list.

The Holbrook device makes you pull back the oprod handle to chamber a round, or to close the action. Also the clip doesn’t fly out at the last shot. Don’t know if I like that. I’m not exactly sure how you get it out.

I’ve heard you can make your own Holbrook device by cutting off the arm and drilling a pocket for the spring.

I looked, and that's what it looks like, a modified op rod catch (if I'm using the right term).

Mine seem to need a bump to get them to strip off the first round and I kind of like that.
