I think that the Maximum Average Pressure (MAP) for the commercially-loaded .308 Winchester round is 52,000 CUP (not sure of the PSI equivalent). I remember reading somewhere that MAP for the 7.62 NATO is 50,000 CUP (again, not sure with the PSI equivalent is).

Anyone confirm these numbers? Measurements in PSI would be nice, too.

Thanks.

I have seen published reloading data indicating MAP for .308 as high as 58,000 cup.

SAAMI manual 1992 says;
.308 150 gr bullet is 52,000 cup.
Same manual says transducer psi for .308 150 gr bullet is 62,000 psi.
US Army Tech manual TM 43-0001-27, Army ammunition data sheets , small caliber ammunition FSC 1305 says;
7.62x51, Ball, M59, 150.5 gr projectile is 50,000 psi. The method of measurement is not specified but when that cartridge was developed C.U.P. was the standard of measure. Transducers are a relatively new method of measurement for this type of testing/proofing.
I am not an expert, I am just quoting what sources I have and have been around some of this for a couple of years or so.
I hope this helps you. Good luck.
