I see many different types of .308 surplus ammo. Argentine, German, British, Portugese, PMP, Austrian .308. What do you all have to say about these different types in regards to accuracy, quality, how dirty they shoot? Opinions/experiences much appreciated. Thx.

The Portuguese milsurp ammo is highly thought of.
Just picked up a case from Sportsmans Guide (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/)

Patty, check the archives in the "Ammunition" board here. Many of the threads have detailed discussions of this issue. You often get varying results with different surplus ammos (even different batches of the same surplus ammo) in different rifles. People generally seem to like the Austrian Hirtenberger, German DAG, Portuguese, and British Radway Green.

I've shot about 2,000 or so rounds of Portuguese 7.62x51 through my M1A and my FAL. Even counting the 1,200 rounds of loose packed stuff that I got from Paragon awhile back, I,ve never had a miss-fire or a failure to feed (that I can recall). The accuracy of this stuff also seemed pretty outstanding for mil-surplus ammo. I seem to be able to get 1-1.5 MOA using this ammo with a scope in my M1A. I can consistently ding the 425 yd. gong at my local range while people with bolt action hunting rifles miss. It's not match quality ammo, but for general use it seems accurate, cheap, and plentiful.

I have used Radway Green and Cavim, both seem accurate enough and the powder seems to burn clean. I havent had any misfires out of the 1500 rounds or so that I have fired of them.

Wouldn't it be great if we could somehow submit votes on the ammo we buy & shoot so the info can be complied in a nice easy to read chart as opposed to gleening thru archives? We could submit ammo used, rifle used and results: poor, fair, good, excellent. Does this web have that capability?
