You might try teflon o rings they should take a lot of temp.

I've decided that I don't want a carry handle on each of my fals and I don't want to fork out for non-cut receivers. What do you RKIs put in the slot? Washers? Homemade bushings? I appreciate your input.

I was thinking of maybe using just a rubber 'O' ring. Should be able to find one at an auto parts store or hardware.

Teflon is good to about 500F, which should be enough, but will it take a finish? Gotta have that E.B.A.R. look.

DSA (and I) have beveled washers which fill the gap on the reciever, they are an oppressive 2.oo ea. d.

Thanks, Derek! I knew they had to be out there somewhere. I think even my paypal account can cover that.

and if the $2 steel spacers from DSA (which I use) are too much hassel, I've gotten in two aussie kits with stubs still attached (so I assume the parts are original) with what appears to be a thick-walled rubber hose cut to fill the slot.

The offical replacement carrying handle "washer" for the New Zealand Army rifles is:

Washer, Neoprene, Oil Resistant, Black, 18 mm x 9 mm x 5 mm

These are readily available through civil trade sources.

This info pertains to the rmaoval of carrying handles for all NZ Army rifles and is dated 2 Oct 1980.

Snakeshot, Since the carry handles on mine were in pretty bad shape and I wasn't going to use them anyway, I just cut them off and put the "O" part into the receiver. Fits tight and looks good enough.

I hogged out a chunk of barstock of the appropriate thickness, drilled, and contoured using a receiver stub for a template. Smoothed up with a sanding drum and cold blued it. Looks great and completely fills the gap like a round washer cannot do.
