View Full Version : Finishes: refinishing stainless steel?

July 31, 2000, 09:29
I'm thinking about buying one of the DSArms US made stainless steel cocking handle assemblies. This would be to reduce my foreign parts count and get rid of a part that looks bad. How does stainless steel respond to parkarizing or other types of refinishing when compared to the rest of the STG-58 rifle? Will it match when I refinish everything? I don't want everything to match except one lone part. Thanks in advance.

quality stainless steel does not accept parkerizing or bluing. You can use a black oxide which reacts to the chromium rather than carbon, or a sprayed on/baked polymer coating.
