I just want to get some general idea if out of all of the members who bought from last group buy had to return or give up on getting there fal project to work on Hesse receivers. Point in question failure to headspace or go into battery no matter what fixes were giving and barrel timeing issues. :(  jillidge@prodigy.net

I have not given-up yet. I destroyed a receiver wrench, a vise and several other tools in my first attempt to loosen the barrel after tightening it partially down. I have a better receiver wrench on the way, and I just bought a better wrench to use on the barrel flats. I'll post back when I have it done, or I hit a deadend.

Posted, not because I think I've said anything useful for you, but because I'm trying to get this thread going.z

Zoom, is your foot okay, and has your arm healed up?

Thanks for asking. I'm still limping, but that could be from having to work on my feet 8+ hours per day without a day off. Also, my power was out for three days after a transformer blew-up, so I had plenty of chances to stump my toe in the dark. The cut on my arm has stopped stinging. I guess all of the CLP must have worked its way out of the wound. Now, it just looks like it will leave a puckering scar. It will be the worst scar I've collected. Many years of farming, a childhood spent around explosives, a war, several muggings, several years working at a textile mill, and my largest scar is from trying to put a barrel on a FAL. Man, that's embarrassing!

signman, I received two Hesse receivers from the group buy...1 stainless and 1 steel. The steel one is a bit tight, so I'll have to remove some of the barrel shoulder to time properly, and just haven't gotten around to that yet. The stainless I was able to mount the barrel with no problems, but both receivers had some flashing on the parts that I had to file down. The biggest issue with the stainless receiver was the ejector block was about 1/8" too high and needed to be filed down. I would have sent it back, but I had already filed down the bolt carrier rails and the warranty is for an unaltered receiver, so I didn't even try. All in all, it wasn't TOO bad, but I'm not planning on picking up a Hesse for my next receiver...it'll be either the $195 Williams or a $240 Imbel.

HTH,
Tom

so far I've had to relieve the bbl shoulder to get it to time but not much problem there. Have had to dremel off some flashing, open up the extractor area, relieve the left inside flat of the receiver (I think someone elsehad to do that also), but overall I'm either getting better or I got lucky. Waiting on 2 handguards, bolt hold open pin, magazine catch spring, back sight catch, wood pistol grip and decent trigger guard/insert. I could go and test fire it with what I have now. With no back sight installed. And borrowing a bolt hold open from my other FAL to see about tuning gas system.

Hey Guys, Just an update. I too ran the gamit with trials and fixes and just could not get the Dam thing to head space or go in too battery with out hitting it with a hammer. All the other parts fit fine with a little fitting I couldn't believe it had recheck too see if it was Hesse unit. I too had a tight Barreling but cheated, took some off of shoulder and barrel face more like polished the face. Thank God for Larry's Gun wrench worked like a charm. back to the head spaceing thats went everything went Hell. It would always jam at the last minute and hang 3/16ths from the go gauge and it seemed to float back and to the left before closing. So I too thought it was over. So I call Hesse. I figured What the Hell lets send it too its creater and request that they take look at. He agreed So I pack it up Barreled receiver bolt and bolt carrier and a-way she goes. I'll post you on the update on ther findings. I'll bet he will remachine the unit and make it work. will see.....
