I'm guessing he's the only one in the photo that looks happy to be there. What type of gun is he holding?

Maybe it's a trick question and he's behind the dark glass. :D

Mea Culpa!

Guy in the middle is yours truly, avec Sterling 9mm SMG. Rick Sebenoler is ex-USA LT on my right, and Bill Schwarz is former USMC LT on my left. In the rest of the ORIGINAL photos I still have, I have my FAL somewhere. In this pic, it was leaning against the tire of the V-150.

This was 20 years and about 40 pounds ago! OMG!

PS- I still have the boonie hat!

Drat, I am hoist w/ my own petard!

Ted was this before you joined the US Army or After? I didn't think the Army allowed it's employees to moonlight with other nations' militaries.

I was an advisor, under a 'contract' managed by a US Army Colonel whose office was in Riyadh.

I was detached from Active Duty for this contract. I had transferred to the USAR previously.

Yes, I do have a dog-earred copy!
:D

Thanks!

And also notably mentioned in "The Mercenaries", a critique of US foreign policy written in the 80s.

The 'tank' (VW) is a Cadillac-Gage V-150 armoured car. We had several variants, my favorite being the 20mm cannon turret. Kick some serious ass.

The author of the SOF story is ID'd as R.A. Hasselmeyer. He is in fact Richard A. Sebenoler, my buddie on my right. We were enlisted together, and he went to ROTC and I to the School for Boys.

Funny that we met nearly 10 years later in KSA.

My tanker buddy always told me "Why carry a weapon when your weapon can carry you?"

Another tanker fav from the Infantry advanced course: " If we do PT properly, there will be no need to shower afterwards"
