View Full Version : what the heck is up with this SARCO charging handle????

I got a refinished cocking handle from SARCO with wood knob on it a while back, but it came pre-assembled, even with the bolt carrier engagement stud pinned in. When I tried to unpin it to put it on a rifle, it didn't want to come loose, in fact I broke the dang wood knob eventually. Then, I went back a few days ago and tried to get that pin out again and I broke my punch! The punch wasn't exactly as big as the hole, but for pete's sake, what are they putting these pins in with??? Hydraulic press & superglue???

:?

How could you break the wood knob (which is a cool idea but may not be durable) trying to get the bolt carrier lug off the charging handle? The pin fits straight down, the handle fits perpendicular to that axis. I don't believe they are actually tapered but I have always pounded UP to remove and DOWN to install, FWIW.

The punch is only 1/16" IIRC and they WILL break. Hope you had a Craftsman.

How could I break it? Hard work and determination, and it slipped...

unfortunately, not a Craftsman, harbor freight disposable unit.

I know it's straight but that thing is in TIGHT, the head is mushroomed on the side the installed it from.

DEFINITELY try to drive it out from the non shroomed side. Maybe nail it with some local heat from a propane torch. Also I would call Sarco back....how thwe hell are you supposed to install it with the lug already IN?? I can never do it-I always punch the pin in after installing on the receiver...

Good luck!:|

Is it just me or is sarco always a crap shoot?

Sometime you get lucky and wind up with up you thought you ordered

but my experience is less than 50/50

I don't necessarily blame SARCO for that... think about it... the entire thing is self-contained. No loose parts to track or keep together or worry about. And you even get a lug pin for free, can't tell you how many of my kits came without 'em.

My SARCO experiences haven't always been turn-key all the way through, but they have ALWAYS made it right in the end.

I do have to admit that some of the difficulties I've had were my own fault (not reading the description correctly or not understanding their's) and you are right any time I have gone back to them they did correct the problem.

other than that they can be a bit slow sometimes but who isn't

So I do stand corrected

Thanks Radio
