Hello.

I just bought a Mak-90 that somehow has a damaged front trunnion. I havent picked it up from the transfer FFL yet. I havent seen the damage yet, all I know is that a round will hang up when the bolt/carrier comes forward. But for 112 dollars, I had to buy it.

My question is:

A front trunion can be replaced, but I think thats the only serial numbered part on the gun. Would removing it be defacing / Illegal?

And if I cant find a 19mm chinese trunion, would a 23mm setup work? Im pretty sure I can fix this one way or another. Ive built (with help) a few AK's from parts kit.

Thanks in advance for any advice, or if someone knows where a 19mm trunnion is available.

The front trunion is the serial numbered part on the stamped MAK-90s...

If you want the real shit on the legality of replacing the trunion (serial numbered part), get the poop straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, and visit the BATFE website (and send them an email about it)...

Just to be as safe as possible (because BATFE people never give the wrong advice, of course), get the answer in writing with someone's name and office included...

Good luck...

Thanks for the advice about the other forum, and the ATF.

Im really hoping this is fixable. I wanted a mini-project and think this is it.

The legalities of the serial number aside- a 23mm trunnion would need to have, if my numbers are right, 0.6mm removed from each side of the trunnion. Obviously the Chinese barrel will not be able to be used.
