Did you guys see this article?

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070914/D8RLFAQO0.html

I searched for the little twerp’s AP email to write a personal reply to his anti-gun “article” and could not find it. But I *did* find his friendster page where he is looking for friends. I guess he needs them. Here is his friendster page if any of you care to do the same:

http://profiles.friendster.com/934250

Here is my personal email to my new “friend” Matty:

Hey - I would much prefer to have emailed you at your Associated Press work email, but since that is apparently kept top secret, I decided to reach you here.

My email was prompted by your article for AP regarding the tragic shooting in Miami by Shawn Sherwin Labeet. It is a horrible thing for a policeman to be killed by a criminal, of course on that we can agree.

The real problem I saw with your story was it seemed less like news, and more as a clumsy and cartoonish effort to demonize guns. Can we agree that guns, like cars, wrenches, kitchen knives and hammers are inanimate objects made of metal that have no morality of their own and can be used for good or evil?

Can we further agree that GUNS, unlike cars, wrenches, kitchen knives, and hammers are SPECIFICALLY PROTECTED BY THE SECOND AMENDMENT OF THE US CONSTITUTION?

Now, I don't really care what your personal feelings are regarding the legal ownership and use of firearms. To write such utter falsehoods in your story such as "(the guns)can be ordered by mail for under $200." displays an incredible amount of ignorance on your part, OR you are not "writing a news story" but simply "taking dictation" from the anti-gun crowd." First of all, 10 seconds of investigation would reveal it is illegal to purchase firearms through the mail. If a criminal were to set up a mail order business, I can't imagine it would be very difficult for the BATF to find and prosecute the person when he came to collect his gun orders from the mailbox! You can "buy" a gun online through services like gunbroker.com In that case, you agree to buy a gun through an online auction, you send the seller a copy of your local licensed FFL dealers paperwork and he sends the gun to your local dealer. The local dealer then conducts the background check and verification that you are legally allowed to purchase the gun.

Spreading the kind of lies and disinformation you did in your article makes you look naive and foolish and it makes the Gestapo gun-grabbing crowd all that more rabid. Stop it. Stop spreading lies.

Is there an Illegal gun trade? Yes of course, just as there are illegal trades in drugs, cars, sex, you name it. But when you blur the distinction between how criminals get their hands on firearms versus how law-abiding citizens do, you are effectively taking a dump on the bill of rights and that is not very nice. Oh did Mr. Labeet purchase his AK-47 legally? Did he have prior felony convictions that would have made it illegal for him to EVER purchase a gun legally? Gee I don't know, BECAUSE YOUR ARTICLE NEVER ADDRESSED THIS.

Furthermore, playing into the "Evil Assault Weapon" Hysteria such as publishing quotes like this: "These bullets are very powerful: they go through walls, they go through cars, and if you just spray the general vicinity you're going to get innocent bystanders," Acosta said. "A shooting that might have been an injury previously is now a death." Really is a disservice to your readers. The AK-47 weapon Mr. Labeet used fires an "intermediate" round, the 7.62x39mm cartridge. This round is MUCH LESS POWERFUL than the typical deer rifle used throughout the country. Do you understand why this is important and you cannot spread propaganda about the "power" of assault weapons? In this case, if the ignorant lawmakers say "We must ban these "powerful" weapons" it will in fact outlaw many more thousands of types of firearms "accidentally" because they have MORE power than the AK-47 round. Stop it. Stop lying. Educate your self to the facts on this important issue. Report the news, do not become the unofficial and unpaid spokesman for Handgun control and Sara Brady.

I hope you receive this email in the spirit in which it was intended, and further more, I hope you will read some history books regarding the horrors that have befallen a population unarmed by their own Governments. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, all agree that "Gun Control works!"

Cheers,

Richard

A$$hole Press

The guns are readily available on streets, Baixauli said, or can be ordered by mail for under $200.

I didn't know an AK 47 could be ordered by mail by just anybody
Last I heard you needed to have a FFL to have one mailed to you
Then there is the whole transfer paperwork / NICS check or having a CCW to take posession of a firearm

Maybe they do it differnt in FL? Its part of Cuba not the US, right?

Propaganda is just that... falsehoods and lies used in sensational fashions to garner strong emotions in the viewers in an attempt to sway sentiment in the desired direction.

It's not about reporting the truth when it comes to these bozos, it's about spewing bile.

I wonder how many folks who always wanted an AK 47 but didn't know how to go about getting one will start looking in the Harriet Carter or Fingerhut catalogs to get one shipped now that they have seen this article.

Sending someone an email is fine, but using ALL CAPS TO MAKE A POINT JUST MAKES IT SOUND LIKE YOU ARE SCREAMING.

Also, I wouldn't make it longer than 200 words. Make your point, make it brief and make it super-politely.

You will win more bees with honey than vinegar. If someone had emailed me with that, I would have read about half and deleted it. It just reads like you are frothing at the mouth.

The leftist won't even open the email....afraid it *might* contain a fact that contradicts his OPINION.

I am not surprised that the author wrote the article with that slant, look at his credentials -- Columbia University (NYC), etc.

What I am surprised about is this:
The rising number of deaths by assault weapons reflects growing availability of the weapons and their elevation to a status symbol among gang members, said Carlos Baixauli, an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"In the early '80s to '90s, it was more common to have a handgun in your waistband and the bigger the caliber, the more powerful you were," Baixauli said. "Now it's escalated to the assault weapons."

Another issue potentially at play is the 2004 expiration of the federal assault weapons ban, 10 years after its passage. The legislation outlawed 19 types of guns, including the semiautomatic AK-47.

The guns are readily available on streets, Baixauli said, or can be ordered by mail for under $200.

Why is an ATF agent lying about the availability AND PRICE of these rifles?

Seems to me that instead of writing useless emails to the MSM, someone should be looking up this agent and writing him and his supervisor a letter complaining about him spreading misinformation.
