Ran across this pretty nice Egyptian 8mm today. Had always wanted a 30-06 one, but for $275 and the brand new extra bbl I thought it would work. http://www.hunting-pictures.com/members/NC%20Rifleman/fn49wbbl.jpg
Also, will trade + cash for nice 30-06 version ;)

Haven't shot it yet. Will find out tomorrow. Bore looks like hell, will probably end up putting other barrel on.

Well it looks complete, and if the other barrel isn't too ratty I think you did pretty good!

Very classic lines, and very cool. (I've love a 30-06 too)

Yeah, not my favorite caliber, but I thought it was a pretty good deal too. Looks like got shot alot without cleaning. Took 3hrs scrubbing to see any rifling  ,fortunately he had the extra bbl.

I got a matched SN 5831 Egyptian for US$ 305 out the door, so 'ya done good'!. Shoots great. Tear off that muzzle cap, get a G-3 FH, and affix by screwing it back on.

Voila! Restored glory. The G-3 FH is a bit different from the original FH, and few Egyptians actually had the FH. Reportedly only the scoped 'sniper' variant came that way.

Have fun shooting!

SO why can't I find a deal like this? I'd love to get one in 8mm....just to be able to buy and shoot all the inexpensive ammo available for it. The only one or two I've seen were much more money and in 30-06!
Slap in the "new" bbl, and get some 8mm cheap! At $89/1440 rd, out the door at the shows, or less p/u at Dan's, it don't come much cheaper.
Leave it an 8mm, just my $.02

Paul

The new barrel probably is just that, NEW. I've gotten two of them, one from Sarco, and one from Springfield Sporters, NIW, 8mm, for $35 ea. Now to find someone to install them for me...

I too bought one of the new 8mm barrels. Came NIW, cosmolene fore-to-aft in both the bore and the gas tube, and nice semi-gloss black lacquer.

Belgian proofs abound!

Got back from test run and everything works. My host was more interested in drinking beer and shooting his uzi so I didnt get to any serious work. Did shoot a couple boxes and hit the 16"-24" plates 100-200yds. And it looks like it helped blow some of that funk out of the barrel. Did take advantage of the free brews an we ran damn near a case of wolf 9mm thru his uzi. I'll try to shoot some groups later this week.

Good looking rifle. I finally got to shoot my 7mm Venezuelan and 30.06 Luxembourg FN-49's yesterday. I got a couple of 3" groups with the 30.06 but I couldn't get much better than 4" with the 7mm at 100 yards. This was at a bench with the rifles resting on my range bag. The 30.06 ammo was Lake City M-2 ball from CMP and the 7mm was some slightly ugly looking FN stuff from SAMCO made in 1970. I threw out 30 rounds of it because it was corroded. I think the condition of the ammo was a factor in the accuracy. Both rifles were a blast to shoot once I got the gas adjusted correctly.

Try commercial ammo. Mine does 3/4" to 2" with Norma, S&B, Remington and Win. 7x57. It likes the heavier bullets.

I will try some commercial ammo. I just hate paying a buck a round for ammo.
