These are my first attempts at a FAL build. Love that G1. These are both Tapco G1's on Imbel receivers with IronWood stocks. I left the metal buttplates off because I got a great deal on the stocks without the inletting for the trap door. Besides, the rubber pads help reduce that kick. They also have the Tapco sleeved flash hider thingies. They have not been refinished but as soon as I am done proofing, tuning and breaking them in I will attempt my first parkerizing job. They both have had 200 rounds put through them apiece last Monday and performed flawlessly. These things really draw a crowd. I can't believe how many hunters know so little about military weapons. One fella wouldn't let his kids even come near me, but I noticed that when dad was shooting they would sneak over to watch me shoot. They got scolded quite a bit but I understand thier interest. The FAL bug can get you at any age. Can't wait to go out again!

Thanks! Pads are from DSA. They are brnd new and shiney (maybe too shiney) but they will work in nicely. The stocks & grips are finished with light sanding starting at 220 and ending at 600 then 6 coats of boiled Linseed oil with light buffing with 0000 steel wool between coats.

One of the trap door plates was shot, actually half of it was missing. The other is in poor shape, battered and has rust holes in it. They are not good for much.

Yup, grips are Ironwood Designs as well.

Beautiful rifles, Metalknight,... those metal handguards sure look businesslike! I've got a set of Ironwood furniture to go on my G1, but after seeing how the steel forearms look on the rifle, I think I'm going to use them also. I especially like the contrast between the parkerized receiver and the blued lower. Wonder how I can make one of those pics my wallpaper?

Very nice MetalKnight!
I'm planning on doing the same this winter. I've budgeted $150 each month after kit purchase. I plan on building mechanically identical rifles except for stock sets, and each rifle is getting a new barrel versus the kit one. this will be my first FAL project, too.
Thanks for sharing the pics, those Ironwood stocks are beautiful.
