Some more pictures of my (finally) finished STG58. All assembly (by myself, with mister Coyote's help) in Flat black GunKote (all metal parts) and Furniture in Truck bed liner (Duplicolor) by ME! Pics not as good as I wanted, but the rifle turned out well and I'm pleased, particularly with how well it shoots. Here goes:

Nice job AA! That Bedliner Spray is Cool  in a Can! The third kit I redid, I used that Stuff, and now I want to take the others apart and Spray them also!
Later!

Thanks FXE. I wonder if they have other colors in that bedliner - all I could find was black?

Very nice! The more I see that bedliner spray the more tempted I am to use it myself.
Good job! -FLC

Yes it turned out OK, but I had to redo the PG twice, That's when I learned that the best texture was about as far away as you could possibly spray the part (after one base coat a little closer for initial coverage) and I was doing this out in my back yard with thew wind blowing, had to adjust the pattern for windage!

How did you do the gunkote? I have some and it keeps turning out awfully glossy. I haven't retried it yet, but I've been told to heat the part up more and very very light coats. Any other ideas?

Any other ideas?</STRONG>I used a HVLP gun, had poor luck with pre-val sprayers, Turned the material adjustment and pattern adjustment down to almost zero, as low as possible, turn air up till you get proper atomization on test piece, you'll see it the coverage will start to even out and become uniform not too much air cause it will dry the thinner out and material will go on like dust -- spray in light fog coats at least 12" away. Sounds like you might be getting a little close too the part if it's glossy, try spraying a little farther away. My parts got a little glossy if I got too close or "hosed" it on. You don't really need to heat the part at all. You can spray it at room temperature or just warm to the touch. The only reason to heat it is too prevent runs, GunKote is thiiiinnn! If you spray in light fog coats you won't have runs. I srayed that entire gun without heating it at all. Never got a single run. Air temp was about 60 F, but that is getting close to too cool. you can warm it some if your air temp is any lower. HTH
I have painted before (airplanes) but I'm no expert. Many variables may change your results, but distance from gun to part seemed too be the most critical in glossiness.
Good Luck - post pics - Have Fun!

Thanks, I will give it another try soon. I was going to give it a go the other day, had cleaned and degreased a mag to try it on, was heating it up, got out my air gun only to find that the almost BRAND NEW can of air was empty. It was one of the large cans, too, so I was not too happy. Oh well.

I just tried the Dupli-color bed liner route. My Imbel stocks looked like they were dragged behind a truck. A light sanding, acetone de-grease, two coats of liner, and they look great! It was just too easy and affordable.

Looks really nice. Finishing touch would be the lettering. I haven't tried this yet myself (my STG kit from What a Country was in such nice shape that I did not need to refinish).
I will be refinishing an R1 kit for a friend that looked like it had been run over by a tank when it came in. I am considering KG gun kote or mag phos. park. The lettering is still up in the air.
Good job and enjoy.

Good job and enjoy.</STRONG>I'm not sure about white lettering on GunKote yet. The GunKote really holds on to oil - I'm afraid it would hold the excess white paint to. Might have to try it on a "scrap". I really do admire the many neatly done lettering jobs, but I had to get this one out the door, it's already sold to fund my keepers!
