Even though it's a kit rifle, this is very, VERY cool Woodie! I like to follow themes with almost anything I own from guns to motorcycles or cars. This is following a well thought out theme Woodie, and even though you don't need me to tell you, you have every reason to be proud of it!

Is that an R1 barrel that you fit the bipod to? I am waiting for a bipod now to put on my R1 barrel, any problems or advise? thanks

Where did you find the early stock? Are they being shipped on some R1 kits? Way cool, woodie.

Beg pardon, but doesn't the QD lug on the bottom of the bbl also serve duty as a bayo lug?

I've seen the QD flash hiders and QD BFAs (I have several) for these type bbls.

The underlying reason I'm asking is that 1. I'm building a G1 lookalike and have several 4 groove and 6 groove bbls that would've worked, but I didnt want to encounter #2...

2. What are you going to do if the rifle is confiscated for having a PG and a bayo lug in violation of the 94 crime bill?

I'm really not trying to be a spoiler either, just wondering why you decided to build her this way. BTW, it's gorgeous. D.

From what Ive heard not all lugged barrels are alike. Attachments from differing countries/contracts wont necessarily fit all lugged barrels. Might be worthwhile to get a type A bayo to confirm any particular barrel being bayo capable.

But, say you have a barrel that a type A bayo fits. Trim barrel by 1/2-3/4", enough to where the bayo crosspiece cant slip over barrel muzzle. Without muzzle support at the bayo crosspiece I dont think the bayo will stay retained on the lug. Thus, not a bayo lug.
For BFA or other accessory use, make a bushing the same length the barrrel was shortened, to fit inside BFA (ala 7.62 Garand conversion chamber insert).

Just a thought http://www.fnfal.com/forums/smile.gif

good idea, pogo, but I still dont think it's a subtlety that I'd want to risk my business and my family's safety over. D.

Derek,

Why not throw the barrel on a lathe and remove the lug? Or <cringe> grind it on a grinder? Or add a tad of weld to prevent it from being used.

Just an idea.

Damn, i go out of town for a day and come back and i an on trial.

Derek. this is a G1 style barrel, not a tapco argie/canada barrel. the G1 never had a bayonet made for it ( check out pg 252 in volume 3 of the bible) it had a q/d flashider, a q/d BFD and a q/d grenade launcher. the barrel is thinner and the lug is moved forward so the the canada prong type bayonet will not fit it.

the top is a tapco brl and the lower the G1 style the differance is pretty clear once you look at it. if i thought it would be a big deal i would have tiged the dovetail like i have done using the tapco brls. o-well its already refinished

dude, you're not on trial for diddly, I was just posing a query.

I used an stg bbl with the threads cut off and an 11deg. crown installed. No lug. No bug. D.

This is just a FYI type post. I recall reading a response from the atf about a bayo lug on an AR15 dissipator style barrel. The argumant was that since the bbl only extends a few inches past the front sight base, the mil issue bayo will not attach to it. ATF still said no on the lug, so all post-ban dissipator style AR's have the lug shaved off.
True, this may be apples and oranges or maybe not, all depends on what end of the rope your on. I try to err on the safe side.

So, what goes on the Argy barrels? I ground off the edges of the keystone shaped lug, assuming it would prevent retention of a bayonet. I was thinking the bayo attached sort of like with a Garand. Then I learn of these tubular do-dads that twist and snap on (never personally examined one). My mod probably wouldn't preclude mounting that kind of device. Does the Argy lug take the tubular twist on bayo, or the slide-on-from-the-front bayo?

They slide on the front just like a typical US bayonet.

it slides on and locks on the backside of the lug. i've welded up the dovetails and files it down into a square lug, so that the bayo won't go over

So what are the two prongs for? Seems like they'd tend to get hung up on ribs.

mmmmmm ribs....

Almost supper time!

The two prongs and the blade are a flash eliminator. The thinking being that if it is after dark you should have your bayonet fixed.
